National Anomalous Preserves Weekly Incident Report

INCIDENTS
00-057: Harlan’s Rise Radio Observation Array
A radio transmission beginning at 3:04 AM and lasting exactly 2 hours and 13 minutes was detected as it was broadcast from SEAS by the Harlan’s Rise Radio Observation Array. This marks the twelfth broadcast this calendar year, putting broadcast frequency at only 32% of normal since January 1st. This broadcast, denoted as 00-12-C, was remarkable in both its duration and direction - at 2 hours and 13 minutes, 00-12-C is the third longest broadcast ever recorded, and the only broadcast aimed at the Deneb system. As with all previous broadcasts, no response was observed. In addition, the composition of broadcast 00-12-C was found to be identical to that of broadcast 98-44-V, marking it as the 4th duplicate broadcast to be recorded. The broadcast’s encrypted recording and in-house analysis were forwarded along to both the park’s designated Federal Anomalous Incident Agent and the Research Department of the Anomalous Preserve Network, both of which confirmed receipt of the records at 6:31 AM and 7:09 AM, respectively.
00-058: Stall 7, Men’s Bathroom, Main Visitor’s Center
A visitor reported the flooding of the men’s bathroom shortly after the conclusion of the staff luncheon catered by AJ’s All-Time BBQ Bonanza, a BBQ restaurant located in Clearwater. Upon responding, Maintenance Crew reported the presence of a “3-foot-long greasy mass” that required 3 attempts with a snake to clear. The bathroom was temporarily closed for cleaning, and AJ’s was added to the list of unacceptable caterers for future luncheons.
00-059: Hallelujah Point Observation Deck
An attempted attack on the canyon by an extremist member of the Terran Preservation Front was halted by park security. The attacker, F.R. from Vancouver, had bypassed the Park Entrance Security Checkpoint by hiking through the mountains north of neighboring Wells Gray Provincial Park over the course of several weeks, and was reported by a hiker who called in to report “a ragged-looking man hiking out of the woods with weird bricks strapped to his body.” When detained by park security, F.R. had nearly 30 pounds of C4 explosive strapped to his body, all of which he intended to use to “blow that damn ship to bits”. F.R. was turned over to regional authorities and charged with attempted terrorism, possession of illegal weaponry, attempted xenocide, and trespassing. This marks the fifth unsuccessful attempt at access with malicious intent by TPF operatives in the last year - additional security funding has been requested from the APN.
00-060: East Garage
Six work trucks that were located in the East Garage winter storage area failed to start, and were found to all have wiring harnesses that had been eaten by a family of mice that had made a nest in the headliner of one of the trucks. The mice were removed, and the trucks were taken to the park Mechanic Division for repairs. Resumption of the Milky Falls pathway renovation has been delayed until further notice.
00-061: Sunrise Point Observation Area, Perimeter Fence C
A guest, T.W. from Buffalo, New York, broke from his guided tour and attempted to breach the perimeter of the canyon at approximately 11:45am on June 9th. Park security was unable to catch T.W. before he cleared perimeter Fence B. After beginning to climb Fence C and ignoring 5 audible commands to turn around issued via the intercom system, T.W. was executed by a single shot to his left temple from Emergency Marksman F-2 in Sniper Nest 23. According to a journal found in his backpack, T.W.’s intended plan had been to scale down the canyon wall, climb onboard SEAS, and depart Earth for “somewhere else.” This incident has been designated as an inconsequential breach, and T.W.’s body was transported to his family in Buffalo for burial.
00-062: Southern Rim Funicular Station
4 out of 5 members of the research expedition “Ermine” from the University of the Northern Shield returned from their 3-week exploration of the Crawling Narrows portion of the canyon by way of the southern rim funicular. The missing fifth member was killed by an unknown lifeform that emerged from an unexplored cavern in the depths of the Narrows. This organism was described by expedition members as resembling “an anemone with the form of a serpent” and measuring somewhere between 10 and 20 meters long. After interviewing each expedition member separately and reviewing the accompanying evidence, Park Authorities concluded that the team’s account of their 5th member’s death was true and correct. This marks the 159th human death to occur in the Canyon since the arrival of SEAS. Interview transcripts and videos were passed on to both the APN and the park’s designated Federal Anomalous Incident Agent.
Findings from the research brought back by the surviving expeditionaries indicate that the area of the Crawling Narrows has grown by at least 12% since the 1995 survey, marking a 200% increase in growth rate vs. the 1990-95 period. Level 4 Bio-Class containment efforts have been recommended by the APN, and a containment expedition has been scheduled for July 1st, 2000.
00-063: Main Visitor’s Center
A stray kitten was found beneath the stairs leading to the outdoor SEAS model exhibit. The kitten, now named “Nibbles,” was taken to the park vet, where he is currently getting a check-up, having his shots, getting fixed, and being chipped.. Nibbles has been adopted by the full-time staff of the Maintenance Department, and has been formally offered employment as the park’s official ratcatcher. A small heated house was created via a collaborative effort between the Engineering and Maintenance departments in the Primary Workshop for Nibbles to live in. Nibbles will be moved to his new “office” once he is released by the Veterinary department.
