Chapter 1
Death wasn't so bad, he supposed. Granted, dying in his twenties sucked something fierce, but the peace of the afterlife wasn't so bad. The view was spectacular while floating in the vastness of space, staring out at the wonder of eternity. Swirling galaxies, brightly colored nebulae, and things he didn't know the proper terms for that stole his breath away.
Not that he actually breathed anymore!
Heh, skull joke.
Dark humor aside, it really was a wondrous experience that never let him grow bored. Time meant nothing where he was, and he didn't know how long he'd been dead. He didn't care either. With his memories being perfectly crystal clear, he could relive any moment of his life as if it was the most high definition movie in existence. Between that and the amazing view as he drifted through infinity, un-life was pretty great.
[Welcome to Chaos!]
He looked at the screen for a moment, then looked away. He knew what it likely was, and he wanted no part of it! He had no huge desire to be reborn in a fictional world with some kind of system, gacha, or whatever other crap some ROB wanted to give him. All those guys ended up being overpowered Chads picking up women like plucking carrots in a garden.
Okay, he wasn't gay, and the women did sound nice.
HOWEVER!
Such things also came with a lot of fighting; frankly, he wasn't interested in fighting at all! Not to mention, many of his favorite worlds, while fun to an outside observer, were straight-up hell worlds to the locals! Take High School DxD. On the outside, it was a fun comedy show about a dude overly obsessed with breasts getting a kick ass power up when fondling the hot redhead.
In reality, it was a world where the SON OF LUCIFER wanted to UNLEASH THE BEAST OF THE APOCALYPSE for shits and giggles.
No, thank you with all the sarcasm he could muster.
That was just one world that he could think of. What if he got sent to some shithole world like Attack on Titan or Kimetsu no Yaiba?! He'd get ganked before having the chance to grow strong. Or, god forbid, what if he went somewhere like the Dragon Ball universe?! His entire existence held in the hand of a childish multiversal being who could erase whole universes if he got up on the wrong side of the bed? HELL NO!
[Hey! Stop ignoring me!]
Ignored. Oh! Look at that nebula! It looks kind of like a blue cloud in the shape of a dragon's head.
[That's the dragon head nebula. Kind of on the nose, right?]
His gaze immediately moved away from the nebula and looked out into the infinite distance while sinking into his memories to get away.
[You know. Ignoring me isn't going to change what's about to happen. If you want to go into it blind, that's fine with me!]
Oh! You know what? With his death-improved memory, he could marathon all eleven hundred episodes of One Piece he'd seen! That sounded fun.
[Oh, come on! Pay attention to me! I'll give you some cool stuff! … maybe...]
He hummed along with the opening theme of episode one. He honestly couldn't believe that the series had started before he was born and continued after he'd died. At least, he assumed it continued. It better have!
[It did.]
Oh good.
[AHA! GOT YA!]
Fuck! Go away. I'm not interested.
[Too bad. You don't have a choice. You never did. Now, pay attention because I'm only going to say this once and then you're on your own!]
Godammit, fine! What bullshit is coming into my life now?
[Welcome to the Chaos Gacha! As a new player, you get one Limitless Roll! This roll, unlike future rolls, will not be influenced by type or tier! It could be from any category and of any rarity, from Trash to Transcendent!]
A fucking gacha? REALLY?! Come on! Gacha sucks, and it's a complete waste of money!
[Shut up! ROLLING!]
[Roll Complete! Ability Ticket, Epic Item, A ticket that acts as a 6x Advantage Platinum Ability Gacha Ticket.]
[That's not too bad, ROLLING!]
[Roll Complete! Klyntar Form, Legendary Ability, Marvel - Allows you to transform into a Klyntar, a symbiotic amorphous race with the ability to merge with biological matter and assume their characteristics. Bonding with or taking over a host allows you to share their powers as well as grant them your own power and physical abilities. But in this form, you are incredibly vulnerable to loud noises and fire.]
…
The mighty legendary ability will allow me to turn into a pile of goo to possess people? The fuck, man?
[Hey! Quite bitching! Both rolls were pretty awesome. You turned an Epic Item into a Legendary Ability! That's pretty awesome. Now you have a choice: you can head into your new life as is, or roll some curses to earn points that can be spent on more rolls! Given that your only current ability turns you into a puddle of goo weak to sound and fire, you might want to consider trying for something you can use in your human form. Just saying...]
He considered it for a moment before he sighed in resignation. Oh, wait, he didn't have lungs!
Skull joke!
Roll a curse.
[ROLLING!]
[½ (One Half), 8 Points, This is gonna be very confusing. When exposed to cold water, your gender reverses; your genderswapped form looks exactly like how you would have looked if you were born the other gender. And if exposed to hot water, you turn back to your original gender. Resolve: Acquire a genderbending ability/trait or apply an Elite rank or higher curse-breaking effect on yourself.]
[Okay, just for the record, 5 points gets you a Bronze Tier roll, 10 gets you a Silver, 20 for Gold, 50 for Platinum, 100 for Diamond, 250 for Legendary, 500 for Mythical, 1,000 for Divine. So, you got enough points for one Bronze roll with some left over. But! Just this one time, you can roll as many curses as you want! GO FOR MORE!]
He considered it for a moment, then decided to go for it. The first curse was obviously from Ranma ½, and it wasn't too bad. At least it didn't have the water attraction portion that would scheme against him to get him wet if he stayed as one sex for too long.
Roll another.
[ROLLING!]
[Weakness of Metal, 9 Points, "From the moment I understood the weakness of metal, it disgusted me. I craved the ever-changing nature of flesh." Your body naturally and violently rejects any augmentations and implants you try to add to it. Even adding a metal tooth would cause your flesh and body to reject it violently. Resolve: Acquire 3 or more augment items from the gacha, or acquire 3 or more traits that contradict the curse.]
That... how was that a curse? Well... if he went to a work like Cyberpunk 2077, it would be a nasty one for sure. Except he could turn into a goo alien at will to possess other people's bodies. Well, so far he didn't feel very cursed, so...
Roll another.
[ROLLING!]
[Bad Blood, 7 Points, You were born into a family of bad people, could be criminals, cultists, crooks, gangsters, or god forbid, a corpo. Resolve: None, a one-and-done deal.]
God forbid being a corpo for sure. Still, not much of a curse. So he had shit relatives, what's new?
Roll another!
[ROLLING!]
[Gluttony, 16 Points, Your body needs a lot of food to function, and I mean a lot. You need to consume 10x of what you usually need to consume to function. Meaning you will starve in less than 3 days, or even faster if you choose not to eat. Resolve: Acquire any of the traits: Efficient Cells or Voracity. Or devour at least 5 rare ranked items or equivalents.]
Oh. Fuck. Okay, yeah, he was done with the curses; that one was pretty goddamn terrible. He liked food, but ten times as much? What if he ended up in a world where big eaters were common?! Jesus, what if he somehow ended up a Saiyan in the future? Imagine Goku eating TEN TIMES as much as he already did?! That would be enough food to feed a small country!
I'm done rolling curses.
[Okay! You've got 40 points you can spend on rolls. What are you rolling?]
He considered his options. Eight Bronze rolls didn't seem too bad. Neither did four Silver nor two Gold. Or some combination of that...
Roll two Gold.
[ROLLING!]
[Lightsaber, Rare Item, Star Wars - A classic textbook lightsaber made from a Kyber Crystal that projects a blade of energy, no, you do not need force powers to use this one.]
[Grue, Elite Ability, Worm - Allows you to create a cloud of darkness that blots out the senses of everyone inside but you, making it incredibly difficult to perceive anything while inside. The effects can be partially mitigated by strong targets.]
He stared at the rolls for a moment and honestly wished he could laugh. For one, he just fulfilled a childhood dream! A real honest-to-god lightsaber! Any geek worth the name would kill for one of those!
The Grue ability was kind of interesting. It basically made him a walking smoke grenade. But when you combined it with the lightsaber, it was an amazing combination! Fill the area with darkness, then go all Sith Assassin on someone's ass. Or, more likely in his case, run the hell away.
At the very least, it would give him time to find a body to hide in if he needed to. Frankly, he had no idea where he was going or what to expect.
[You're going to One Piece. BYE!]
Suddenly, it felt like a massive hand grabbed him and threw him with so much force that the pinpricks that were stars became streaks of light. If he could have, he would have screamed in sheer fear. The streaks came faster and faster. Grew brighter and brighter. Then there was nothing but white light.
He suddenly felt a heavy thud roll through his entire body that made everything ache.
Body? He had a body! Why the hell did his whole body hurt?! He groaned in pain, his eyes fluttering open only to slam closed at the blindingly bright light that pierced them and drove nails right into his brain. His brain, which he only now noticed, contained memories that weren't his. Memories that explained away one of his curses and why his whole body ached so badly.
He was Montclair D. Renard, grandson of Saint Montclair Lucien, son of Saint Monclair Celestine and some unnamed man bearing the initial D. He bore two of the most influential bloodlines in the world. Bloodlines that happened to hate each other to their core. Half Celestial Dragon, the most despicable scum in a world filled with murdering and raping scumbags. The line of D, the enemies of the Celestial Dragons, promised to end them. Or something like that.
His memories told him that his mother had died giving birth to him. It had been a long and laborious birth, so she took what time she could to write him a letter in case of the worst. The writing in the letter had been shaky, but in it she'd told him his whole name and how she snuck out to find his father among the ants beneath them. Being a sheltered little shit, the original Renard had asked his grandfather about the initial D and showed him the letter.
That turned out to be a massive mistake on his part. Lucien had him beaten, then thrown directly out of Mary Geoise and off the edge of the Red Line into the ocean below. No way in hell a weakling World Noble would survive something like that, hence him now being in control of the body that had most likely died on landing in...
He had no idea what ocean he was in. Depending on where he was thrown off the Red Line, he could be in any of the four blues, though East and South were most likely. He could also be in the Calm Belt, or at the end of the first half of the Grand Line, or the beginning of the second half. There was also no telling when he had arrived. The last owner of his body hadn't paid any attention to the world news, finding it to be beneath him.
He slowly opened his eyes once again, the pain from the light of the sun not nearly as bad as before. His situation did not improve with eyesight. He was currently on a large piece of wooden wreckage floating on a calm ocean. Given that he could see a small wake coming off the wreckage, he could assume he was caught in a current. That ruled out being in the Calm Belt.
Thank GOD for small mercies.
It really was a small mercy because he could see nothing at all in any direction. He was literally in the middle of nowhere. Though if he had to guess, he wasn't on either half of the Grand Line. If he was the weather would be going apeshit in all kinds of crazy ways.
Unless he was in the weather zone of an island.
DAMMIT!
He flopped down, causing the wreck to wobble. He sighed and closed his eyes so he wasn't staring up into the sun in the sky. There was literally nothing he could do and nothing in his arsenal of skills to help him out of this mess...
His eyes snapped open, and he sat up with a jolt, “Klyntar!”
He sat up and looked around with wide eyes, “I need a fish! NO! I need a shark!”
The Klyntar ability said it could merge with biological matter, not just humans! He could work his way through the ocean's food chain to get into a decently strong body, maybe a smaller sea king, and use that to find an island with people.
He went to jump into the ocean but paused. Where the hell was his Lightsaber?
Ah! Just thinking that let him know it was in a system space and would remain there until he took it out. Though once it was taken out, it couldn't be put back in. All items and familiars would work that way. This meant his items could be stolen, which meant he wouldn't be pulling out that lightsaber until he was completely certain no one would be able to take it from him.
With nothing else to worry about and his stomach starting to ache, he dropped himself into the ocean. He squirmed as a weird feeling covered his entire body, the feeling of his anatomy completely changing from male to female. He'd been bone dry on the piece of wreckage and instantly triggered his ½ curse as soon as he got in the water. To say it was weird would be an understatement. He was now a she, and she had breasts. She had to firmly resist not grabbing her breasts, as there were more important things to do at the moment.
Blood had filled the water around her as it came off her now oddly fitted clothing. On the bright side, the cold water felt great on her sore body. Her rebirth seemed to heal the majority of the wounds; well, it would have to, or she'd just die right away again from all the damage a fall of several thousand feet into water would deal.
She dunked her head under the water while keeping one hand on the wreckage. She didn't want to risk losing it until she could actually breathe underwater. It was hard to see through the murky water. What she could see was empty of any sea life. She frowned and pulled her head out to get some more air. She stayed in the water and kept dunking her head to keep an eye out for something, anything, she could take control of.
Time slowly passed, and with it her hunger grew until it felt like her stomach was trying to digest her spine. She'd felt hunger before, even gone a day or two without eating, but she'd never felt hunger like this before. The curse of gluttony was really coming in, and it was not playing around. She needed food, and she needed it soon. What was that saying, three days without water or seven days without food would lead to death? Given she needed ten times as much food as a normal person, she would likely starve to death in less than twenty-four hours.
Given her wounds and how long it had likely been since her body last had food... it didn't look good.
As the sun was going down, she finally saw some movement in the water. Something was coming closer! She watched impatiently as it got closer. For an ocean that always seemed to teem with life in the show, she was shocked by how empty it seemed around her. Whatever was coming was her only hope. She didn't know how long it took, but as the sea creature got closer, she could finally make out its shape. It... she had no idea what the fuck it was. It looked like a fish, but it had a weird bird-like head with a sharp beak. It looked like it actually had feathers on its head!
Well, whatever, it could have been a sardine for all she cared!
As the bird-headed fish got closer, it slowed down and seemed to be eyeing her up with some level of intelligence. Honestly, in the world of One Piece, it was entirely possible the fish was some sort of weird thing with human-level intelligence.
Or it was looking for the best place to bite first. Who the hell knew?
They stared at each other for a few seconds before the bird-headed fish charged forward. It was at that moment that she realized that maybe, just maybe, it might have been a good idea to try turning into a Klyntar beforehand. Or even using her Grue power to check it out. That might have been a mildly intelligent idea.
Well, it was too goddamn late now! She just focused on wanting to shift to a Klyntar, and the next moment, she was a puddle of red goo suspended in the ocean. Not a moment too soon, as the next second a sharp beak drove into her goo form. Instinct took over, and the next moment she was sinking into the creature.
It was... weird, to put it mildly. She, wait no, she was a he once more since the fish was male. Huh, how'd he know that? He wasn't in control at the moment, being too new to this to immediately take over the fish's body. Which was fine, because he had no idea how to swim like a fish. Sitting back and leaving the fish's brain in control was feeding him information on how the fish did things, teaching him about its body.
He could feel its primitive mind and its confusion about his disappearance. Then the confusion faded, and it was back on the hunt for food. It seemed pickings were slim as the fish was almost as hungry as he was. Though, interestingly, he was feeling the edge of his hunger getting less demanding. He was definitely still starving, but it just didn't hurt as much as it did before slipping inside the fish...
That sounded dirty.
Bonding with the fish? Sure! Bonding! Way less sketchy sounding.
Anyway, something was helping somehow. He just had no idea what. Wait... Klyntar's were aliens. What did they eat? Didn't... Didn't Venom eat brains? Gross. He honestly never saw those movies or read many comics, so he wasn't sure. Didn't he once read that Venom liked chocolate? He hadn't a clue, and nothing he'd gotten from the gacha told him.
Whatever. That could wait until later. Right now, he needed to learn how to pilot a bird-headed fish and figure out how to get food with it. Just sitting quietly inside of it was teaching him a lot about the fish and its body. As it did, he could suddenly sense ways he could improve the fish to make it better in every aspect. He could make it faster, stronger, improve its senses, and even improve its gills so it could take more oxygen from the water.
How?
No idea. This was all extremely new to him, and he hadn't a clue how any of this was supposed to work.
Hmm? What was that? The fish jerked and moved in a new direction after something strange, like a tingle, happened. Was that... its sense of smell? Strange. The fish picked up speed and finally, in the distance, he caught a silvery flash of light on scales. It was actually really easy to see through the water with the fish's eyes.
He watched and learned from within as the bird-headed fish got closer to its prey, a rather normal looking fish. Was that even allowed in the Once Piece world? Regardless, as it got closer, the bird-headed fish suddenly accelerated like a missile. Basically, the same thing it'd done to him. The bird-head speared the other fish right behind its head. The fish jerked a few times, then went still. Bird-head swung its head to throw the dead fish off its beak.
Once released, the bird-head started to rip into the fish, eating it from neck to tail. Unfortunately, the fish eating didn't seem to do much for his own hunger. It did help a little, but not much. However, now he felt like he knew enough to take over. Red goo flowed out of the fish's body and wrapped firmly around it as he completely took over. It was rather easy, and he expected taking over a human mind would be a fair bit harder. Especially people with Observation and/or Conqueror's Haki.
Becoming the fish was very weird. Watching and controlling were two very different things. Everything felt strange, but breathing water with gills was the strangest. Once he was in full control, he enhanced the fish's body, pushing it past its natural limits. If he had lips, he would grin. Especially when he started swimming. He had no idea how fast he was going, but he cut through the water like a razor.
With enhanced senses, he felt the same tingle of scent that meant possible prey. His improved eyesight caught the silvery flash of fish scales, lots of them. A... herd? Horde? Oh! School, duh. A school of fish was in the distance, swimming together. Now he really wanted to smile while his ragged, white, teardrop-shaped eyes locked onto the largest fish in the school.
He accelerated like a bullet and speared the large fish right behind its head just like the original bird-head did. After getting it off his beak, he began ripping into it.
…
Well, that sucked. The flavor of the fish was bland as hell. Even with him enhancing the fish, its taste buds were seriously lacking. On the other hand, and more importantly, devouring the large fish was very filling. If he had to guess, the fish had to weigh at least fifty pounds, and he ate everything but its head, spine, and tail. Even so, he was still hungry.
He spent quite a while hunting down and devouring fish from the school. By the time he actually felt full, he estimated he had eaten over a thousand pounds of fish. That... was a lot. Hopefully, he wouldn't have to eat that much at every meal as long as he kept up with things. He had just arrived in the world in a weak body that probably hadn't eaten in at least a day.
Feeling sated, he decided it was time to try to find an island with some humans on it. He started swimming in a random direction. What else was he going to do? He hoped to find something eventually.
He spent hours swimming and even hunting along the way, but by the time the sun was going down, he hadn't even seen a hint of an island. Feeling tired, he released control over the body of the bird-head and moved back inside of it to get some sleep. Maybe the fish would lead him to an island while it was in charge.
One could hope, right?
-----Line Break-----
[Congrats on surviving your first day! +5 Points]
That was what greeted him when he woke up the next morning. Five points were enough for a Bronze roll. Though he would have to pick a single category, which was helpful, actually. He could choose from Abilities, Items, Traits, Skills, Familiars, and Random. He doubted he would get much from a Bronze roll, though. It seemed better to wait until he got another five points for at least a Silver roll.
Yeah, saving for a better roll seemed like a good idea. Given he had no idea how to earn more points, he would save what he could get and hope for good rolls rather than spend it all on a bunch of Trash and Common items.
With his decision made, he focused on the senses of the fish he was bonded to. As soon as he did, he perked up. There was a school of fish nearby, and he was hungry! He quickly took over the fish and went hunting. Another roughly thousand pounds of raw fish, he felt fulfilled.
It was hours after his breakfast, while he was in the middle of lunch, that he spotted something that sent his heart soaring: the hull of a ship! But first, he finished his lunch. He didn't want to get on the ship and eat them out of house and home as soon as he got on board.
Once he was full, he swam closer to the hull of the ship and moved toward the surface to get a better look at it. His eyesight out of water wasn't all that great, but he could make out that the flag on top of the main mast of the ship was black with a white skull.
A pirate ship.
Okay, so no way he was approaching them as a human while stuck in his female form. That left taking one of them over. Shouldn't be too hard! Best wait for night, though, so he swam back beneath the surface and trailed behind the ship. Occasionally, he would make some distance to snag a fish or two every hour or so to keep himself from getting very hungry.
Eventually, night fell as it always did. He swiftly swam to the side of the ship under the cover of darkness. He pressed up against it and removed himself from the fish while sticking to the side of the hull. Thankfully, his gooey body could stick to the wood rather easily. Moving as a puddle of goo was weird, but he made it work as he... no, he was she now that she no longer possessed a male fish.
Man, pronouns were hard!
She wiggled her way up to the deck and looked around for a target. She was a little picky; not just any target would do until they arrived at an island where she could escape. She carefully looked around the empty deck and slithered... was that the right word? Whatever. She slithered onto the deck and made her way through the ship until she found the captain's cabin. Why take over a minion when she could take over the boss? Besides, the boss was likely to know the most about what was going on.
She slipped under the door into the small cabin where the captain was asleep and snoring loudly. She slithered her way up one of the legs of the bed and dove into the captain without hesitation. The captain jerked awake and looked around, but it was already too late; she was inside of him and safely hidden. Once again, possessing a male made her a him again.
He stayed buried inside the captain, taking the time to adjust to being inside a human, something he had never experienced before...
Goddammit, why did that come out sounding so sexual?!
Whatever.
He focused on learning about the captain's body and connecting to his mind. The fish didn't have much of a memory and was mostly instincts and a low cunning when it came to hunting. An adult human, though? Way more complex and containing way more information. He tried to focus on the more recent memories to figure things out.
It became a lot easier when the captain, having found nothing wrong, went back to sleep. Digging into his memories became a lot easier and gave him a lot of information. He was inside of Gideon 'Iron Mantis' Voss, a small-time pirate with a bounty of only five million in the North Blue. The only interesting thing about him is his minor connection to Germa 66.
A year or so ago, he was working as a dock hand for Germa 66 and stole some of their tech to make the weapons that earned him his title. He made a pair of gauntlets with retractable blades that would snap out with a lot of force to slice people apart. He was also pretty smart for a pirate. He knew he was small time and avoided interacting with other pirates or anyone that could possibly be stronger than himself.
The only reason Germa 66 hadn't reached out to swat him like a fly for the theft of their property was his talent for hunting down ships carrying supplies Germa 66 would like and selling those supplies to them at a steep discount. Things like scientific equipment, medical supplies, and rare metals all kept him from getting squished.
He'd hunted down information on a shipment of rare metals that would be heading for the Grand Line to make a delivery. They were already on their way to intercept them. That would also, conveniently, put them near the Germa Kingdom so they could sell it off fast.
He considered his options and slowly came up with a plan. Surviving in the One Piece world required power. Lots of power. His Gacha could provide some, but he had no sure methods of gaining points to make rolls with. Cliche's suggest feats of some sort will earn him points, like surviving the first day had been.
He'd have to see what tomorrow would bring. He relaxed and was soon asleep inside his new host.
-----Line Break-----
[Congrats on surviving another day! +5 Points]
Hmmm, so he would get five points a day? That wasn't terrible. Basic math told him that if he waited for roughly three and a half months, he could afford a Divine roll. The question was, could he even wait that long? He definitely needed to find a way to earn more points.
While deciding what to do, he paid attention to the things going on around him from within Voss. It was interesting watching the man command his crew. He'd never sailed on a ship before, so everything happening was a new experience for him. More interestingly, he wasn't getting nearly as hungry as he was before. Though he was definitely still growing hungry over time. He needed... more.
That's where his new discoveries came in! Being inside a sentient being was completely different from being in a mindless animal. He could force a takeover of Voss and take complete control if he wanted to, but that didn't seem wise. Even with full access to Voss's memories, that didn't mean he could perfectly act like Voss.
Besides, it was nice just to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
Though he wasn't completely relaxed. He was subtly manipulating Voss to eat more food. Already, he'd made Voss hungry enough to eat two large meals. He'd had to order his men to supplement their supplies with some fish to feed his hunger. Going by Voss's memories, it was something they did often thanks to the variety of fish in the sea. It turned out that not all fish tasted like fish. There were actually quite a few that tasted more like beef. It was interesting.
In exchange for making Voss eat more, he began to enhance Voss with his own biomass in the same way Venom enhanced the people he was inside of. It was an instinctual thing. Voss provided him nourishment, so he provided Voss with enhancements. Though they would fade if he left Voss's body. Something he planned to do the moment he had a better option.
Until then, he planned to stay inside of Voss and just nudge him to eat more so he didn't starve. The last thing he needed was to get so hungry he considered taking over Voss's body to bite people's heads off.
Ew.
-----Line Break-----
Well... this wasn't fun. He quietly watched from within Voss as the pirate and his crew raided the target ship. It had taken them three more days to hunt down the target ship, and now they were raiding it. It wasn't looking like there would be survivors. He wanted to help the innocent merchants, but... he was scared. He had no idea how to fight. Even raiding Voss's memories hadn't taught him anything useful. The guy just used his 'claws' and hoped they were enough.
On the flip side, while Voss was fighting, he'd discovered something new about his Klyntar state.
Adrenaline was the ambrosia of the GODS!
Ever since the fighting started, Adrenaline had been pumping through Voss's veins, and he'd been feeding on it. It was so delicious that it almost felt like he was getting high off of it. Hell, maybe he was. He was also getting really full in a way he hadn't been in any of his three lives. That could come in handy for dealing with his Gluttony curse.
Aside from that, he'd spent all day yesterday and most of today thinking about whether or not he should spend his points on a gold roll. The last two had gotten him Grue and his Lightsaber, so he knew he'd at least get something useful.
Or should he wait five more days for a Platinum roll?
Ugh, this is why he hated gacha so much! It was going to turn him into a gambling addict, and he HATED IT! He couldn't help thinking that something just right from a Gold roll could help him out, but maybe waiting for a Platinum one would help more? He mentally scowled but kept going around in circles with himself because not doing so meant seeing the slaughter of innocent people happening in front of him.
Okay, screw it, he was going to roll. But what should he roll? Items were straight out. While he might get something interesting, he doubted it would be something immediately helpful. His Lightsaber was definitely powerful, and with it, he could probably defeat every pirate on the ship, especially combined with Grue. But then what? So, no items.
Abilities had potential. So did traits. Though... he wasn't quite sure what the difference would be. He knew, intellectually, what the difference was, but not what it meant in the gacha. For example, is psychic power an ability or a trait? Not that he specifically wanted that, but it made the point for himself.
Familiars, though, had a lot of potential. He couldn't see any reason he couldn't bond with one of his familiars. He didn't know if he could get people, but even a decent creature or monster could be a game-changer, especially after he enhanced it. If humans were possible, that could be an even bigger game-changer for him.
Fuck it, 'Roll a Gold Familiar.'
[ROLLING!]
[Libra, Rare Familiar, Fairy Tail - Libra is a Celestial Spirit, representing the Libra Constellation. Libra is a capable melee fighter, but her real strength lies in her mastery over gravity magic, being able to change the weight of her targets at will. As a Celestial Spirit, she is unable to be killed by normal means and her power scales with her owners.]
[POINTS: 5]
Huh. He was aware of Fairy Tail and had watched a few episodes, but he'd never really gotten into it, so all he knew of Libra was the description just given to him. However, he did know that they usually had human forms. Gravity magic was also overpowered as hell! Gravity chamber training was now on the menu!
Libra, much like his Lightsaber, was inside a pocket dimension and wouldn't be active until he summoned her out of it. Also, like the Lightsaber, once she was taken out of the space, she couldn't be put back inside. Unfortunately, he didn't know how strong her Gravity Magic was. It should have some power to it as one of the golden key spirits, but the main drawback to Celestial Spirits is that their strength was bound to their masters. In other words, his strength. Which, unfortunately, wasn't very much at the moment.
Fuck it, 'Roll a Bronze Random.'

And this is EXACTLY WHY GACHA IS FUCKING EVIL!
Well. At least if he ever lost his Lightsaber, he could get it back. But what if he lost the phone? Ugh. Fucking gacha!
He didn't want to be conscious anymore. Nap time.
-----Line Break-----
He awoke in the middle of the night, long after the raid had been finished and the pirates were underway to a port to sell off their ill-gotten gains. He went through Voss's memories, and if he'd had blood, it would have frozen in his veins.
He knew that pirates were not good people. He did. Yet he'd let his knowledge of Luffy and the others cloud his judgment. He'd forgotten that even someone as 'awesome' as Eustass Kid was a mass murderer who'd killed who knew how many people during his career as a pirate. Given how the show portrayed things, he felt he could be forgiven for forgetting.
Voss's newest memories, however, killed any notion of no longer knowing in a very visceral manner. Not only had Voss and his crew robbed the ship, but they'd also killed all the men and kidnapped all the women. Voss's mind was very clear on what he planned to do. The women would be 'entertainment' until they could be sold at a black market run by the infamous Joker.
He knew who that shit stain was.
But the worst, the absolute WORST, was what Voss had done to the woman now chained to his bed and passed out from his treatment of her.
What the hell was he thinking, letting them do their thing while he did nothing?
NO MORE!
Red goo flowed out of Voss's body as Renard completely took over and crushed Voss's mind down as deep as he could. He climbed off the bed, being extra careful not to jolt it and wake up the poor woman after everything she'd been through. Once standing, he summoned his lightsaber into his hand. He looked over the simple, unadorned hilt. Looked like he had a blank canvas to customize it. Though that wasn't important right now.
With the hilt in hand, darkness thicker than any smoke and black as pitch flooded out of his body and rapidly filled the room. He could tell the darkness was there, but he could see through it as if it wasn't. He moved with purpose out onto the main deck. With Voss's memories, he knew every inch of the ship like the back of his hand and who was assigned where and on what shift.
He easily slipped down below the deck into the crew quarters with the darkness preceding him. Shouts of confusion rose from several men still having 'fun' when they were swallowed by the darkness. A press of his thumb and a dark blue blade of plasma came to life with the classic snap-hiss of a lightsaber igniting.
Even with the bright light of the plasma blade, the men he was moving toward were still blinded and unable to see him. No way were any of them even remotely strong enough to fight the effects of Grue. He might not have been a master swordsman of any caliber, but it didn't take a genius to slice clean through a blind, panicked pirate with a blade that could cut through almost anything.
The scream of the pirate was drastically muffled by the darkness of Grue, leaving the others still unaware of the predator among them. Just as he moved toward the next pirate, he stopped and frowned. He felt like he'd just eaten a good meal. He looked around and spotted why. The sight of a tentacle coming off his foot and piercing the head of the dead pirate sent a shiver down his spine.
Clearly, his body knew what was good for it and wanted it even if he didn't.
He fought down the urge to vomit and focused on the more important job at hand, killing the pirates. He moved to the next and cut him down just as easily as the first. He did his best not to think about what he was doing, to only focus on his rage at their actions. The sight of their victims really helped with that.
He focused only on what he felt he had to do. Body after body fell until there were no living pirates left. After the last body fell, he deactivated Grue, and then the screaming began. The women had known something was going on, but seeing the bisected corpses sent them over the edge. Many screamed, some fainted, and the ones who saw him froze in terror. He ignored all of them and made his way to the side of the ship, where he began to vomit up everything he'd eaten.
Ever.
That was the worst experience in two of his lives. If he were willing to dig into his memories of Renard, he could probably see worse things. The Celestial Dragons were not good people, and the original Renard had been exposed to some serious fucked up shit. He'd just felt the edges of those memories and immediately ignored them. He honestly feared that going through them would turn him into a psychopath.
The absolute worst part, though? Seeing the looks of terror on the faces of the women who saw him. He was pretty sure sinking back into the captain would only make it worse. At least he could say that it was a Devil Fruit power or something. If they would even listen to him.
He shook his head and made his way back to the captain's cabin. There, he found the woman the captain had claimed, sitting, chained to the bed, and looking panicked. Seeing him clearly freaked her out as she screamed loudly at him. He did his best not to take it personally. Instead, he focused on breaking the chain that kept her locked to the bed to free her.
[Feat Achieved! Freed Slaves. +10 Points]
[POINTS: 20]
He left the room and made his way onto the deck to try to figure out what to do next. Obviously, he wasn't going to lead the women to the black market, nor was he going to sail to one of the Germa 66 ports to sell the goods on the ship.
Digging through Voss's memory let him know the nearest island with a port was only half a day away. That would have to do. He went to the wheel and took it over. He was strong and fast enough to sail the ship himself, and Voss's memories told him everything he needed to know for basic navigation. He wouldn't be guiding anyone through the Grand Line, but it would do for now.
His plans had changed. Voss was the only one on the ship with a bounty, and he was, technically, captured now. It might be a bit awkward, but he could see about turning him in for the bounty. He could definitely use the money to buy things like some new clothing, both male and female, for his new life.
He nodded, yeah, that was a good plan.
-----Line Break-----
It was a bright new day, earning him another five points, when he pulled into the dock at Seadrift City and came face to face with a small army of Marines all pointing rifles at him while a higher-ranked one stood further to the back.
When the ship came to a stop, the Marine who looked to be in charge shouted, “Iron Mantis pirates, you are under arrest! Raise your hands in the air and prepare to be boarded!”
Not wanting to deal with getting shot, Renard raised his hands and calmly stood at the wheel. For obvious reasons, he got a lot of stares and looks of fear from the lower-ranked Marines. The higher-ranked ones, though, took one look at him and assumed 'Devil Fruit.'
It didn't take long for them to determine the conditions on the ship with the freed women, who explained their situation, and the corpses of the pirate crew. After making him wait for a few minutes, the leader of the Marine Base stepped in front of him, “I am Commander Rivett. Who are you?”
When Renard spoke, he was surprised at how feminine and breathy his voice was before remembering he was technically still in his female form, “I am Renard.”
“Renard?” Obviously, he thought that a strange name for a woman, but pressed on, “Can you tell me what happened here?”
“Yes. I happened to come across this ship and snuck aboard in the dead of night. I found the women being abused and took exception to it, so I put a stop to it.”
The Commander eyed him for a bit, then asked, “I take it you used your Devil Fruit to take down the pirates? If so, what happened to Captain Gideon Voss? His body was not found among the others.”
Renard nodded, “Indeed. My Devil Fruit is versatile and allows me to take over and control the bodies of anyone weaker than myself. Currently, I am in control of Gideon Voss.” As he spoke, he allowed half of his face to peel away to show half of Voss's face and how terrified he currently was, “I can leave his body and return to my own at your command.”
The Commander looked shocked for a moment before turning grim. He gestured to the grunts nearby, “Surround him.” Once they had, he focused back on Renard, “Release him.”
Renard nodded, then added, “Oh, I took him over when he was asleep; he's unarmed.”
Seeing the Commander nod in understanding, Renard quickly flowed away from Voss, making a puddle of red and white goo to the side. Voss was quickly taken down while Renard reformed into his original body in its female form. Commander Rivett looked Renard over and commented, “You look like you've been through hell.”
Renard chuckled, “Indeed, I have. I'm hoping to use the bounty for Voss to do a little shopping.”
Commander Rivett looked Renard over and asked, “What is the name of your Devil Fruit?”
Renard decided to play dumb, “I have no idea. I didn't even know it was a Devil Fruit when I ate it. I just found a fruit in the woods of my home village, Foosha, and ate it.” She made a disgusted face, “It was the most foul thing ever. I only swallowed that first bite out of sheer shock. Ever since then, I've been able to turn into that puddle of goo you saw and take over the bodies of weaker beings. I've mostly only used it on animals. Voss was the first human I've used it on, and it was not pleasant.”
Commander Rivett nodded, “I can imagine how disturbing something like that might be.” He looked at the restrained and still clearly freaked out Voss, then back to Renard, “Follow me to the base, I'll get you your reward.”
The walk to the base and the wait inside were silent and rather awkward. Clearly, her display and usage of her 'Devil Fruit' power had freaked everyone out. Not that she blamed them. Seeing a Klyntar in action could definitely be disconcerting. Best to keep his sex swapping a secret.
Thankfully, for everyone involved, Voss was only worth five million, so it didn't take long to count it out and hand it over to Renard, who was then politely asked to leave. As soon as she accepted the money, a surprising notification appeared.
[Feat Achieved! Pirate Bounty Collected, +5 Points.]
[POINTS: 25]
She accepted the points and quickly left to find something important, food. She was getting hungry and didn't want that to progress to starving. She quickly found a restaurant and sat down to eat a large meal. She got quite a few looks from people at the sheer amount she ate, but she didn't care.
She left the restaurant with a hot cup of water, which had gotten her a few looks she ignored. She stepped into the first alley with some privacy and dumped the hot water on her head.
He groaned and stretched as his body shifted back to what it was meant to be. His clothing fit better, and his anatomy was much more familiar. It was goddamn weird to walk around with bouncing breasts.
…
He needed to buy bras, didn't he? Or bikini tops, or something to keep his breasts in place when he was a she. So... double clothes shopping. Joy. He shook his head to dismiss the thoughts and instead focused on getting clothing shopping for his male form out of the way first. Man, what he wouldn't give for an inventory!

[POINTS: 5]
Well, those weren't what he was hoping for, but he wouldn't say no either. Especially not to Conditioning! In a world like One Piece, where humans could get strong enough to literally punch mountains into oblivion, getting stronger with no effort was broken as hell. The fact that it would also boost any actual training he did?! Fuck rare! Conditioning was goddamn DIVINE in his eyes.
Bow and Arrow was... alright. At least he would always have a long-range attack that would grow with his personal strength. He stroked his chin as he considered his options and looked through what he hadn't claimed yet. He should probably let Libra out while he was in a city to buy clothing and supplies for her. There was also that silly, currently useless, phone for finding lost stuff.
He made his way to a clothing shop. He needed to think about what he was going to do going forward. He also still needed to figure out where he was in the timeline.
Okay. Clothes, a place to rest at, figure out when he was, and plan his next steps after that. That would have to do for now.
-----Line Break-----
Renard hummed as he read the morning paper over a very large breakfast. The main article covered an attack on an island by the Bellamy Pirates led by Bellamy “the Hyena.” This didn't tell him exactly when he was in the timeline, but considering Bellamy was still in North Blue, he was likely at least a little before Luffy left Foosha on his journey. How early was anyone's guess.
So the question became, did he want to try and make his way to the East Blue to see if he could join Luffy's crew? Or did he try to do something on his own? Honestly, he was seriously considering a bounty hunting career. He didn't think it was a coincidence that he got five points for a five-million bounty. If that pattern held, then he was looking at one point per million. If he caught someone like Eustass Kid, who was worth over three hundred million, that would be enough for a Legendary roll on its own!
Of course, he was nowhere near strong enough to capture Kid, but he could start by hunting lower bounties here in the North Blue to build up points for gacha rolls to get stronger. Maybe even build up a crew of bounty hunters to make it even easier for him to rake in points? Libra would definitely help a lot by using her gravity magic to lock people down for capture.
Yeah! The more he thought about it, the more he liked the idea of running a bounty hunting crew to gain all the points!
Decision made, he left the restaurant, where he'd eaten half of the food available, and found himself in an alley where he summoned Libra. His brain froze for a moment as he looked at the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen in any of his lives.
Libra was a curvaceous woman with dark hair tied in an ox horn style. Her attire resembled a belly dancer's, consisting of a frilled and striped bikini top along with a patterned loincloth sporting pom-poms at the waist. She wore numerous bangles on her arms and legs, and her neck was also concealed by a thick necklace. On her feet were a simple pair of sandals, and her head was dressed with a zigzagged headband. Concealing Libra's lower face was another cloth that bore her sign, tied around her head. Dangling from her hands, Libra carried a pair of scales, with thin cords running from her fingertips to the sides of the scales, so that she held them in an almost puppeteer-like fashion.
“Libra?”
The woman nodded but didn't actually speak. It was slightly awkward, but he moved on quickly, “Are you aware of where we are and what's going on?”
She nodded again but still didn't speak. That was going to take some getting used to. He quickly moved on, “Alright. Well, just to be polite, I am Renard, and we'll be working together to capture criminals to turn over to the authorities.”
Libra just nodded once more, making Renard feel even more awkward. He sighed and picked up the cold glass of water he brought with him, “In a moment, we'll go clothing shopping. Your outfit won't stand out too much, but it would be a good idea to have others since you can't return to the Celestial Realm to get new copies of your current one.”
Libra seemed mildly annoyed by that but still didn't comment and seemed to understand the unique situation she was now in. Finally, she sighed, the first sound she'd made since he summoned her, and nodded in acceptance. With her acceptance, he poured the cup of cold water over his head and became a her once more.
Libra's eyes widened slightly in surprise. Libra looked Renard over curiously but still didn't comment. Renard wondered if Libra could even speak. On the bright side, at least she wasn't the masochistic pervert Virgo or the forever-horny ladies' man Leo.
Renard led Libra out of the alley and toward a nice-looking clothing store for women. They spent the next four hours trying on different outfits and picking out ones they both liked. It was actually kind of fun, and even though Libra didn't speak, she still managed to get her meaning across to Renard. It was how the newly christened bounty hunting pair spent the rest of their day, going from store to store to buy clothing and items that could help in their future work.
-----Line Break-----
Renard sat at a table with Libra, eating a large breakfast and going over a pile of bounty posters for all the wanted pirates believed to still be in North Blue. If he was going to go bounty hunting, he was going to go about it right. Especially since he didn't get his free five points that morning. He suspected doing something other than 'surviving' had removed the training wheels and left him to find his own way in the world.
That was fine with him, though he would miss the free points. His current balance of ten points wasn't going to go very far. So...
He looked at the bounty for his first target, 'Lantern Ghost' Rika, the leader of a small group of pirates that worked out of a place called Fogveil Port. They would use stolen signal lanterns in heavy fog to pull ships off course, then raid them. The only reason they hadn't been squished is that they didn't go out of their way to murder people, just stole their stuff and disappeared into the fog.
If it wasn't obvious from its name, Fogveil Port was often besieged by fog in the mornings and evenings as the temperature between night and day changed. The plan was as simple as could be: get on a merchant ship headed for the port and hope it gets targeted. He couldn't really think of any other plan. Fortunately, there was a large merchant ship heading to Fogveil Port later that afternoon. Apparently, it was a big shipping point due to its central location in North Blue.
He finished the last of his breakfast and climbed to his feet, “Come on, Libra, we've got a ship to catch.”
The pair stepped out into the pre-dawn light and made their way to the docks. The ship was set to leave at dawn. It was easy enough to find; he'd made arrangements the previous day, and it obviously hadn't moved. They quickly used the gangplank to board and were led to the tiny cabin they would be sharing. While predominantly a merchant ship, they did have a few cabins for people looking to travel from island to island. It wasn't like everyone had their own boats to get around on.
Renard was considering buying something in the near future so they could travel with ease, but he would need more crew for that. Especially a skilled navigator. While the knowledge he'd stolen from Voss would let him guide a ship throughout the North Blue with little issue, the Grand Line would be way out of his league.
He needed to keep the crew small to keep the splits for money decent between them all. Libra didn't want money and was happy with whatever he gave her, though he planned to treat her very well regardless. Honestly, aside from needing money in order to keep himself fed, he didn't have much use for it. In fact, he'd spent money on fishing gear to supplement the food they would be served on the trip. It was only scheduled to take two days, but that would still take a ton of food for him to survive.
The Gluttony curse was a real pain in his ass. Thankfully, it was the only curse that really was.
While Libra relaxed in their cabin, he grabbed his fishing gear and went to work trying to fish up enough food for their lunch.
-----Line Break-----
Renard stood next to Libra on the deck of the merchant ship, looking out into the fog. The ship had slowed down, and the captain was looking for the signals to guide them through it. This is where Renard hoped 'Lantern Ghost' Rika would strike. Between himself and Libra, he didn't think they would have too much trouble.
“Keep an eye out for the signal!”
Renard glanced to where the captain was shouting from, then back out into the fog. A silent few minutes passed before a light flashed through the thick white mist hiding the island in the distance from view.
“Wait for the proper coded signal!”
The bright light in the distance began flashing in a specific pattern that could be likened to Morse Code. Not that he actually knew Morse Code or anything. Well, except for good old S.O.S. Of course.
“Alright, that's the signal. Keep your eyes on the signal light, laddies, and let's take her in nice and slow!”
Renard let out a slightly annoyed sigh. If the coded signal was right, it seemed unlikely they would be getting attacked by his target. That meant a far more annoying search to find her. Well, no one said being a bounty hunter would be easy.
It was an hour later that the fog began to clear a little, and the island started to come into view as more than a big dark shape in the distance. Renard still found it kind of thrilling to arrive at a new island in the One Piece world. A lot of them were interesting during Luffy's adventures, so he was hoping for a little of that in his own. If he was stuck here, he might as well try to enjoy it. Besides, he would be forced to do things to make money to feed himself, so he might as well have fun doing it.
“That's not right... MEN! Prepare to defend the ship!”
As the fog cleared more, it quickly became apparent that they weren't sailing toward a port but toward an undeveloped section of the island. Waiting for them, there was a small armada of ten longboats loaded with men.
Renard glanced at Libra, “Follow me.”
He headed to the bow of the ship and looked at the longboats that were now rowing toward them as fast as they could. He grinned and looked from boat to boat until he spotted the only one sporting a woman. He pointed at that particular longboat, “Libra, sink all the boats but that one.”
Libra raised her hands, the small scales dangling from them. She held them high for a moment before plunging them down. As her hands dropped, gravity wells formed in the middle of two of the longboats, instantly breaking them in half and sending the men aboard into the sea. She raised her hands high again, canceling those two wells, then dropped them once more to make two more. With each raising and lowering of her scales, she canceled and made new gravity wells to destroy each longboat, except the one Renard had pointed out.
Renard ignored the shouts of fear from the pirates and the gasps of awe from the merchant crew. He heard a few mutters about Devil Fruit powers and didn't contradict them. Until Issho showed up in a few years, no one would discount Libra having the gravity Devil Fruit.
Showing she wasn't completely brain dead, Rika, their target, had her ship turn around and begin to row away as fast as they could. Renard chuckled and addressed Libra, “Pull the last longboat closer.”
Libra nodded and changed the gravity of the boat to pull it toward them. Renard waited until it was a bit closer, then acted. He leaped off the ship and exuded a thick cloud of darkness in mid-air as he activated Grue. He landed on the boat, causing it to rock and the people to shout in shock. Though to those outside, the darkness was entirely silent.
Renard reached for his lightsaber and paused. Wait... what had he done with it after he left Voss? He hadn't put it down, so it was still in Voss's hand, but his hands had been empty when he was arrested. He frowned and thought hard about where it could possibly be. He'd been in his Klyntar form, so maybe...
He shifted into a puddle of black and white goo; the next moment, his lightsaber popped out of his body. He stared at it for a moment before chuckling. He supposed that made some sense. His mass seemed to be whatever he wanted it to be. Right now, he was a small puddle, but if he bonded with someone, he could cover someone's entire body in a thick layer of goo with many times more mass than he had now. That mass had to go and come from somewhere. Not to mention his clothing had to go somewhere, too. Maybe a pocket dimension or something?
He had no idea. What he did know was that he had his lightsaber back and somewhere to store it! He shifted back to his human form and picked up the weapon. He didn't activate it right away; instead, he grabbed the nearest goon and threw him overboard. He laughed at the man's shock and flailing when he did it. The man didn't come to any harm, though, as he easily began swimming. Honestly, throwing the pirates overboard was a lot less traumatic to him than slicing them in half with a lightsaber.
Anyone who happened to find the boat in the dark got their hands stomped on by him until there was no one left in the boat but Rika and himself. He grabbed her with a chokehold and held it until she stopped struggling. Once she was down, he cuffed her hands behind her back. Regular cuffs were easy to find and buy. Getting his hands on a pair of Seastone cuffs would be a lot harder. He might need to think about stealing some from the Marines in the future.
With Rika in custody, he stopped using Grue and let the darkness fade away. Once he could be seen and heard, he shouted to Libra, “Pull us back aboard, Libra!”
He grunted as gravity around him suddenly changed. He was lifted into the air, then pulled toward the ship and finally dropped onto the deck. Under the astonished gazes of the merchant crew, he gestured to Rika, “I present 'Lantern Ghost' Rika. This should make shipping here a lot safer.”
The merchant crew cheered loudly!
After a bit of celebration, the captain got them back to work, sailing around the coast of the island to make for the port. They were at the right island; they'd just been led to the wrong portion of the coast. It wouldn't take them more than an hour or two to get to Fogveil Port. From there, turning in Rika would be a piece of cake. It made him wonder why the Marines hadn't caught her sooner. She must normally be pretty slippery.
Oh well, their incompetence was his gain! Ten more points here he comes!

So, why this story? I've been experimenting lately to expand my horizons a bit. While Merlin is a gacha story, I pretty much made up what was happening based on rolling a d100. If it was high, I gave him something good; if it was low, I gave him trash, but I didn't have an exact list of things or anything like that.
Then I found out about chaosgacha.com and fell in love. Clearly, since I started this story minutes after posting the last one.
Now that I had a legit gacha that would actually give me random things to force me to think of different paths for the story, I dug in. Everything that Renald got in this story was a legit roll I made on the gacha. He's been pretty lucky so far, but who knows if that will last?
I hope you guys liked reading it and are looking forward ot the next one, because I'm going to start it after I post this. Renald needs to earn more points for more rolls!
Love you all.
