I’m really excited to share something new I’ve been thinking about for a long time: my “Shibari Journey” series is officially starting this year!
When I first began creating content Shibari was always part of the vision in the back of my mind, creating a mix of cosplay and bondage. Over the almost 2 years here on Patreon (and nearly 5 years sharing on Reddit), I poured much love into my cosplay work: new characters, better techniques, improved lighting, editing, sometimes storytelling… it’s been (and still is) a rewarding journey.
But when it comes to rope? I have to be honest ... I’ve been lagging behind on that part of my vision.
You’ve probably seen my go-to: the hishi karada (that classic diamond harness) popping up here and there, sometimes paired with cosplay. It’s beautiful, and I love it… but it’s basically been the one tie in my repertoire for way too long. 😅
I’ve mostly been the subject rather than the rigger. I’ve done a few selfties here and there, but they were never really about creating intentional, aesthetic rope art ... because honestly, when you’re tying yourself alone, who sees it anyways?
This year is going to be different.
I want to give my rope skills the same dedicated focus and growth that I gave cosplay last year.
Here’s what I have planned for the Shibari Journey:
Investing in more and better rope — especially lots of beautiful colors to pair with my cosplays and moods
Attending local seminars/workshops whenever possible to learn from experienced riggers in person
Self-studying new ties, harnesses, and techniques through resources online ... starting with solid basics and then exploring more creative / complex patterns
To keep the focus on the rope itself (and on actually improving), I’m starting this series mostly faceless and without specific cosplays at first. I jsut want to share my stuggles and improvements with you all, ofcourse with a lewd vibe. <3
For this first part I went with something classic and beginner-friendly: a simple rope corset (basically a rope cincher around the waist) paired with a basic leash. These are ties you can realistically do on yourself without help, using just a handful of knots. Perfect for learning, right?
…Except the hardest part wasn’t the knots (there are literally only about 3 ones) or the wrapping pattern. Nope. It was my tits. 😂 This tie sits right below them, so I literally couldn’t see what I was doing half the time. I tried using a mirror (which helped a bit), but wrapping (haha lol) your brain around the spatial stuff when you can’t fully watch is way trickier than it sounds. I definitely grabbed the wrong strands more than once, and the whole thing ended up a bit messy and uneven. There are flaws everywhere if you look closely... tension inconsistencies, slightly crooked lines … but that’s exactly why this is a journey.
I really wanted to play with two colors for that gorgeous contrast effect, so I used red and black rope. The red turned out beautiful, but my black rope? Kinda ugly… so I’ve already ordered a new one in purple that matches the red’s quality. Baby steps! More colors are definitely coming as I go. I can already imagine how fun gradients or complementary palettes will look.
Another challenge: leftover rope tails. The black rope had way more length left after using two full hanks of red, and the tutorial just said “get creative” with them. Easier said than done when you’ve mostly done the same few ties forever! I ended up making a little cross in the front and tried to hide the rest inbetween... it actually cinches the corset tighter in a nice way, but it also added to the messy vibe, especially at the bottom. ><
Then there’s the leash! This one was surprisingly fun once I got the rhythm. It’s repetitive, so it clicked pretty quickly. I love how it turned out .. especially the chained effect around the neck. It’s still not super tidy yet, but it’s a solid start, and now I know a cool way to add decorative flair to rope whenever I want.
Oh, and yes… my skirt somehow got caught in the rope from behind. Totally accidental… mostly. 😉
