For this episode we brought on Alex Garza, who did the backgrounds for Jake Renaissance. We had him do the layouts, and then had Josh Floyd do the cleanup and run wild with all the shelf details.
Another thing we took from Jake Renaissance was the idea to add an alternative angle of one of the backgrounds even if it's only on screen for one second out of the whole cartoon. It's been our MO across the series to get the most out of one background for an entire sequence (sometimes an entire episode). But now that we have more BG artists lending a hand, we are more flexible to do stuff like this. It's a subtle thing but it really helps make the world feel more alive.
We also decided at the very last second to completely switch up the color palette of the exterior background. Whoops!
