Weekly Update #114 (Simple Clouds 0.7-pre6)
DESCRIPTION

Hello everyone! This is the last patron BETA for the Simple Clouds 0.7 update before it is finally released. I still have the 1.21+ NeoForge version to do, so it may come out a bit later.

Pre-5 was skipped as I was using it for some private testing.

This BETA includes some features, plus bug fixes and other small tweaks. Most notable features include Distant Horizons cloud shadows, storm fog tweaks, and the Simple Clouds API.

Additions/Tweaks

Added a built-in API

Added Distant Horizons shadows

Snow will now accumulate on the ground and in cauldrons (thanks bmartin127 for the pull request)

Increased cloud type max count from 32 to 64 (thanks TSEG for the pull request)

You can now sleep through thunderstorms, causing the thunderstorm you sleep in to disappear when you wake up

Adjusted storm horizon and sky color fading

Storm fog now has density instead of appearing solid

Reduced overall storminess of all storm clouds slightly

Gave more bass to close thunder sounds and lowered the distance cutoff

Added a "concurrent compute dispatches" config option which can provide a slight performance boost at the cost of higher memory usage. Currently experimental and defaulted to off in the client config

Implemented better detection of empty cloud chunks to skip their rendering

Added a mesh generation client config category with some new options, mainly the "generation interval" option:

STATIC: Targets the "Frames To Generate Mesh Option". The old default option.

TARGET_FPS: Targets a certain perceived framerate for mesh generation/updating. Most impactful on lower-end hardware. This is the new default option.

DYNAMIC: Adjusts the mesh generation interval depending on your FPS. Better for lower end PCs.

Made it so cloud debug overlay info will only show if a player has operator permissions (or is in singleplayer)

Bug Fixes

Fixed crashes related to "NONE precipitation type"

Mobs will no longer burn when it is snowing

Fixed some bugs related to Create pondering (#68)

Fixed issues where the cloud renderer would not refresh when updating config values in a dimension where clouds were disabled

Fixed an issue where dark storminess values were not possible

Fixed rendering issues in disabled dimensions while using Distant Horizons

Fixed weird fullscreen vsync framerate issues

Fixed blindness and darkness not affecting the clouds

Fixed an issue where vanilla rain would not update correctly when changing dimensions (#137)

Fixed the limited built-in shader support

Fixed an AMD compatibility issue (#144)

Added Vivecraft support

Added a Distant Horizons + shader compatibility error screen. Shaders with Distant Horizons are currently not supported and the mod cannot be used

Cloud region stretch will now be accounted for when determining if a cloud region is outside of a players view distance

Fixed an issue where clouds would abruptly disappear when getting too small instead of smoothly fading out

Fixed an issue where using the cloud refresh command would cause too many clouds to spawn if players are close together

I am hoping to release this update this Saturday (June 21). I am also hoping to get a trailer out to accompany the release. Tons of epic stuff in this update that makes Simple Clouds unrecognizable from its initial release. Thanks everyone for your feedback which has helped improve this mod a ton! As always let me know of any issues you may encounter with this BETA.

Until next week!
