Ahimsa Asana Practice

DESCRIPTION

Follow this short practice anytime you can, and prioritize your breath in every shape with smooth, steady breaths in every posture. We can practice Ahimsa when we notice if our breath becomes strained - if it is, that’s a sign of pushing too hard.

Growth lies in finding the balance between joyful effort and ease.

We can also notice the quality of our thoughts in these shapes. The ego will make up stories to prop itself up, and the Virabhadrasana postures remind us to overcome illusion and ego. You are not your thoughts - you are the one who witnesses thoughts. See them, know they aren’t you, and release them.

Whether you practice this daily or once this month, notice how these shapes might feel different or how you feel differently about them each time you visit them. Your feelings are valid - You could feel empowered one day and bored the next. Embrace them all with compassion and curiosity.

Practicing being kind to yourself is practicing being kind to others.

Practice Notes:

Balance is different every day for lots of reasons, including our energy levels, our hunger levels, and even our hormones. Have a sense of humour.
