Ἀσκήματα Ἑλληνικά, Greek Exercises, which I am making for myself to improve my automaticity and fluency.  Feel free to use them as a model for your own practice!  Write your own examples based on the formula and leave them in the comments below.

While in theory understanding the conjugation well enough, I confess that in speech I don’t yet have the automatic command of the third-person plural active present tense -μι verbs that I would like to have.  Thus, I will invent several examples to train myself to comfortably and spontaneously utter these forms.  (I will recite each of the sentences in the audio ἀπὸ στόματος – from memory, albeit short-term only from having just looked at the phrase, but still a practice I find aids in fluency a great deal.)

Why should forms like διδόᾱσι(ν), τιθέᾱσι(ν), δεινύᾱσι(ν) and the like be a weak point?  Well, most traditional grammars, and most of the grammar sequenced readers too (I dare say all of them in both cases), seem to treat the -μι verbs as if they are ‘difficult,’ for some reason; and thus relegate them to the end of most textbooks, avoiding teaching them at all costs until the last minute; by the time the student is out-the-door (so to speak), not nearly enough repetitions have been observed in meaningful contexts to make these forms stick they way they should.  In reality, these verbs’ conjugations are entirely regular, and occur with very high frequency in Ancient Greek literature; but since there is nothing quite like them in Latin, and as most Classicists start with Latin, the non-Latin aspects of Greek are treated as foreign or ‘difficult.’

While I use μι-verbs on a daily basis, somehow I don’t read, hear, or have occasion to say them in the third person plural active often enough to have fully ingrained them into spontaneous working memory.  Having found this weak point, I’ve already begun to remedy it, and I can say that the following exercises strengthen it (ῥωννύᾱσι! q.v. infra).
