Hello everyone!
It’s been a very long time I haven’t spoken out loud to all of you. Apart from the last pieces I posted, I’ve been absent and lost touch with communication.
So, what happened?
Much and not much at the same time.
I spent A LOT of time working on the huge upcoming animation Pine Glade ; completed the first part like I showed in a teaser months ago.
After reworking Anna’s hair and bedroom, then making Feet Pics 2 and Spyglass, I went back on Pine Glade and spent weeks making the entire scenery.
Then, I started polishing the animation of that part, but got cut off with a family reunion.
All this to say that I’ve made progress but not as much as I’d imagine considered what’s still
left to do.
So, what now?
Well, I’ve taken some time to reflect and decided to put Pine Glade on hold for as long as I need to.
I love the scenario of this project, I think it’s worth existing, but it’s realistically and humanly impossible, for me, to keep up until the end.
Until now, I was convinced I could finish it, but I’m simply not experienced enough and I’ve been crazy ambitious.
There’s no real scope, it’s too long, it’s going to take too much time, and I won’t be able to sustain all along.
Basically, a beginner’s mistake I should have seen coming.
I don’t know when or if I’ll come back to it.
If I happen to do so, I have a few leads on how I could potentially finish it.
Essentially recycling what I’ve done so far, and making it a comic OR simplifying it and cutting one part of the plot.
All the time I’ve spent on Pine Glade wasn’t for nothing, though. I learned a lot of news things that I’ll put use into future projects.
But anyways, right now I want it out from my mind.
What changes for me?
I’m now trying my best to be precautious with what I’m getting myself into, better scope projets, and pay more attention to my inspiration.
Since I’ve put Pine Glade on hold, I have plenty of time to work on shorter projects – small and medium size, such as render series, comics, and possibly short-short animations (under a minute long), which suits my way of working
(I don’t like staying on the same project for too long, there’s so many things I wanna do).
What changes for you?
Now, we’re coming back to simpler things.
For those who are on my Discord server, I shared a bunch of WIPs of a comic I’ve been working on for the last two weeks, to celebrate Spring, like I did last year.
It’s almost done and I shall put it in early access very soon.
After that, I’ll jump straight into making another comic, of an idea I had in the back of my mind recently. Something about toying with a little globe...
I’m also considering taking commissions back again. I’ll make a clear announcement once I’m ready.
So, more art coming up!
On the topic of animations, I will get back into it eventually this year. I already have a scenario prepared. And this time I REALLY made sure the scope was right, and the project is easy enough for me to make.
Turns out it is! Not much requirements, easy animation - technically, only one character to animate.
I’ll talk about it in more details when I’ll feel ready to dive back into animating.
Anyways, I’m sorry for the long lasting silence.
Such a goofy start to this year…!
