Fate/Satan - 13
DESCRIPTION

Rin Tohsaka wasn't a morning person on her best of days. From having to wake up when she desperately wanted ten minutes more in her bed, to having to wash her face, taking a bath while half-asleep and having to cook up breakfast, she disliked every single bit of it.

This was doubly true when she only went to sleep around three or four in the morning, then had to wake up only two hours later so as not to mess up the perfect image of a model student she'd so painstakingly built up over the years.

Any less would not befit the lady of the Tohsaka.

Rin's body carried her through the motions half-asleep, shuffling through the mansion like a particularly depressed zombie. Somewhere between brushing her teeth, and then going to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, Rin ran into a quiet Rider-class servant.

Gorgon Medusa.

The monster with poisonous serpents for hair and a gaze that turned men to stone.

The sight of the tall blinded servant knocked all the sleep out of her. Rin raised her hands defensively then grew confused when the woman suddenly gave a polite bow.

"What are you doing?" She asked with narrowed eyes.

Medusa tilted her head slightly, "I assumed it was natural to show you deference."

Why would she-

Oh right.

She submitted to Satan.

The next thought in that line of reasoning made Rin smirk, though she showed courtesy enough to hide it behind her fingers.

"Hm, only a true genius such as yourself would realise that this one can see despite the blindfold."

Speak of the Devil...

Rin blandly eyed the dark-robed 'priest' suddenly standing beside her. He brought a hand to his chin, observing her.

"Surely that is the case. Surely you did not simply forget that a blind person would remain oblivious to your expression even if you did not hide it."

"T-Totally!"

Rin huffed and turned her head to the window beside them.

"Doesn't it get boring pointing out the obvious?"

For a moment, Beelzebub didn't answer her.

Then, a thin smile played across his lips.

"Not when you obviously remain oblivious to the obvious."

"Ugh..." She sighed and shooed him away with a hand, "I'm not in the mood for your wordplay right now. Shoo. Shoo."

The Devil shrugged easily, "As you would have it, my master."

Seeing him depart down the corridor, Rin couldn't help but giggle to herself. Medusa never asked her why, but Rin shared her feelings all the same.

"Satan listens to my commands."

Her daily life, and a simple look in the mirror, gave Rin Tohsaka all the confidence she ever needed in her looks, but to have even the Prince of Hell wanting it brought a wholly different sense of accomplishment.

Medusa only hummed.

-

Fine. I'll just go without her.

Beelzebub scoffed, half-amused with the sheer audacity of his master.

Fortunately, she was just so much shorter and adorable when she got all puffed up and prissy that he didn't have it in him to say no to her. Though, she was even more fun when she wasn't and bit back at him instead of getting irrationally upset like that stupid Starbucks employee.

In the first place, he only sought to invite her because it might be fun for her to accompany him outside.

There was a stranger on their doorstep, stood just a few steps short from the protective barriers laid over the property by Rin's family.

An actual samurai.

His long indigo hair was done in a ponytail, and similarly coloured eyes calmly tracked Beelzebub the moment he stepped outside. The purple theme was even a bit grating, considering it carried over to his kimono and those strange baggy pants Samurai wore.

Hakama-... maybe...?

His fingers twitched as Beelzebub neared, but they remained far away from the long katana on his back like they were held in place by some invisible force.

"You, sir-" His words were gently playful, "-inspire an odd dread within my chest. The likes of which I have felt only once before."

Beelzebub looked him up and down.

Sasaki Kojirou.

The recognition was instant.

An incredible swordsman who came up with a technique that surpassed time itself just to kill a bird. Because, he had nothing else to do.

It occurred to him that he was within his range.

Beelzebub rested both hands atop his staff.

"Greetings, swordsman."

Sasaki inclined his head.

"Likewise. I must say I am grateful to you. My master is terrified enough that she even sent me away from that accursed temple to ensure your agreement proceeded without a..." He rubbed his chin, "Let us say, hitch."

Right, after his attempt at obtaining the Gate of Babylon was thwarted by the rudeness of its owner, he'd turned to extorting the nearest person there. That person just so happened to be Medea, a skilled enough witch that she was able to summon a servant for herself despite her lack of resources.

"Oh, and what hitch would there be?"

"Ruffians, bandits, you know the type. I was to chase them off with this here."

Sasaki reached back and tapped a finger against the hilt of his katana.

"That size..."

The servant smiled, "Impressive, is it not?"

"...might you be compensating for something?"

"Perhaps." His lips twitched, "In any case, I am here to make a delivery."

Sasaki stepped aside to reveal three large sacks piled against each other in the middle of the cobbled street leading down to the main road. They were filled to brim, nearly tearing in places, but they weren't very pleasing to look at.

"My master is grateful for your chance, and is more than willing to provide other offerings if these do not sate you."

Beelzebub wasn't expecting her to give this much in the first place.

"I am the greatest of gluttons, never to be sated."

Sasaki's fingers twitched again, a bead of sweat forming on his forehead from having Beelzebub's complete attention upon him.

"But my own master is easily pleased with wealth, and so this will do. Tell the witch we have terms."

The servant gave a slight nod.

"Before I leave... might I ask you a question?"

Beelzebub remained silent.

"Do you happen to be related to birds?"

"Even a dragon might be named a larger avian if you are willing."

Sasaki nodded his head, visibly pleased with the answer.

"Precisely so!"

In the end, he couldn't hold himself back from aggrandizing himself even when there was little need for it.

The air grew suffocating.

"Then hark, and behold a dragon of seven heads and seven royal crowns."

Then another sign appeared in heaven: a huge red dragon with seven heads, ten horns, and seven royal crowns on his heads. - Revelations 12:3

For Sasaki, day turned into the darkest night for the briefest of moments.

Clack

It was the tap of Beelzebub's staff that pulled him back to the world. There, he found the oldest of serpents staring at him with the most wretched of grins. A dread gripped his heart, and his hands reached for his sword.

Forcibly, Sasaki Kojirou ripped them away.

"I would like to battle you one day. I think I might learn much."

"And I would welcome the amusement most heartily."

"I am grateful then."

Beelzebub acknowledged his words with a slight hum before turning his back.

With Gilgamesh dealt with, Medusa under his yoke, and Sasaki and Medea out of the way, he drew closer and closer to his goal. The only trouble he had was the freedom of choice.

Who to go after next?

-

Rin expected the Devil to be averse to the idea of not accompanying her to school when there was so much opportunity to bother her there. She even entertained the idea of arguing with him first, and then eventually giving in to his demand.

"As you say, my master."

Needless to say, his immediate acceptance threw her for a loop.

Sitting across from her, he calmly brought his cup to his lips and took a sip before gently placing it down on the plate.

"W-What?"

"I believe I shall enjoy a nice tour of the city, perhaps even partake of the local delicacies..." He gazed into her eyes, and his amusement became apparent. "Oh, is this that? Would you be lonely without my charming self nearby, my adorable master?"

"Who'd be lonely without you? I-I'd just worry you'll stab me in the back like you did with your Father."

She did not just say that.

Rin froze.

There had to be lines, even with the Devil.

Instead of growing enraged, Beelzebub brought his hands together and clapped slowly, his crimson eyes burning.

"How daring, my master. I am pleased."

"You're not angry?"

She almost breathed a sigh of relief at how calmly he took that insult.

"Oh but you're so cute when you bite."

Rin flushed.

"S-Shut up."

S... She wasn't going to fall for it!
