Back on board our sailing yacht, Laura reflects on the realities of living aboard a yacht as a couple, sailing with kids, and how close-quarters life at sea can both challenge and strengthen a relationship.
Paradise quickly shifts. High waves force us to abandon an unsafe anchorage and make a fast move from stern-to to med-mooring — with Ross on the lines and Laura at the helm. Soon after, our water maker fails, adding another layer of pressure to life aboard our yacht.
Back in Mytikas, a violent thunderstorm rolls through the anchorage. Lightning strikes repeatedly around us, lighting up the sky and shaking the boats. One bolt strikes the yacht anchored right next to us — a terrifying near-miss that leaves us shaken and painfully aware of how exposed life at sea can be.
While repairs to our water maker are underway, Laura and the boys — Joshua and Noah — head into Mytikas for supplies and unexpectedly come across a tiny kitten in desperate need of help. What follows is an emotional rescue, a sail to Lefkada, and a visit to the vet, where Mali the cat begins a slow but hopeful recovery.
Away from the chaos and out of sight of the kids, Ross and Laura take the dinghy to a secluded anchorage to take a pregnancy test. It’s positive — and for a moment, everything feels possible. During Laura’s birthday in Kastos, we share the news with the boys and enjoy unforgettable family time surrounded by stunning Greek scenery.
A week later, everything changes. Laura suffers a miscarriage, and the joy of that moment turns into grief and heartbreak — a reality rarely shown in sailing vlogs and family travel content.
