DESCRIPTION

No matter how many times you’ve done it, there’s something both exciting and slightly terrifying about watching your home rise 12 feet into the air.

One minute you’re floating peacefully at anchor, and the next you’re dangling in a giant travel lift wondering if the straps are definitely in the right place. 😆

For most people, lift-out is just another maintenance job. For liveaboards, it’s a little different.

It’s your house.

Your office.

Your schoolroom.

Your safe place.

And suddenly it’s hanging above the water looking much smaller than it did five minutes ago.

The boys absolutely love lift-out day. There’s something fascinating about seeing Holly Blue from angles we never normally get to see, and it’s always a reminder of just how much of our life is packed into 42 feet.

But perhaps the strangest part comes afterwards.

When the boat is sitting ashore and life somehow continues as normal.

You still make coffee.

You still work.

You still cook dinner.

You still climb aboard at the end of the day.

Except now your front door requires a ladder and your home is perched high above the ground like some kind of giant white treehouse. 😂

It’s a slightly surreal feeling living aboard a boat that’s no longer in the water - a bit like being a fish out of water ourselves.

Exciting, strange, slightly inconvenient… and somehow all part of the adventure.

For now, Holly Blue is safely ashore and the next phase begins.

More boatyard adventures coming soon… ❤️⛵
