LOG-024.One of the biggest benefits to having an executive boyfriend was that I could delegate all of the annoying work of convincing the RDA to look into alternative profit methods on him, leaving me to fuck around with other things. That meant that I spent more time just wandering about the base, doing things. Said things usually involved bugging the marines to let me paint their faces before they went on patrols. Or hanging out with Grace, who was currently devoting all of her spare time into trying to convince me to arrange a meeting between her and Eywa, which was…certainly a thing to consider. And last but not least, of course, were my attempts at working on my own little ambassador program, sequestered away in a repurposed barracks area that Quaritch had ordered me to contain the children within, lest they run off and get into trouble or something.“Alright, that’s the extremely general basics on capitalism as a system, and thus why the RDA are here, everyone catch that?”My question earned a nod from the handful of children (some born Kyra'meta, others adopted from the Sarentu), one of the girls raising a hand for my attention even as I turned back toward the whiteboard behind me, wiping away the words and symbols I’d drawn on it.Finally left with a clean board and an only slightly stained cloth, I set them both down and turned back to take in the makeshift classroom, smiling at the curious Na’vi still holding her hand up.“Yes, K’yla?”Slowly, the hand lowered, carried along by the arm it was attached to until it was gesturing to the doorway, and the figure lurking within it.My eyes narrowed at the golden eyes staring at me, before I chirped out a reply.“Well, that should be all for this lesson! Remember to go over some of the study materials later! You’ll need it if I’m going to make proper diplomats out of you!”Folding my hands behind my back and bouncing on the balls of my feet as oversized chairs hastily scraped against the floor, I watched the first tentative class of the Hell’s Gate center for education steadily file out of the room, each of them exchanging brief hellos with the woman lurking just outside. Then they were gone, and K’seeli was storming into my teaching space, expression annoyed and tail writhing behind her as the old huntress raised a finger to poke at my chest.“Tsahìk Opal! You will not run from me any longer!”Slowly raising a hand and grabbing the extended digit, I gently lowered it with a deadpan expression, maintaining eye contact with the incensed woman.“I don’t know what you’re talking about K’seeli.”My words earned a huff from the woman, even as I noted the…was that combat webbing she was wearing?“Then you are ignorant! I am sick of playing as your messenger to the Omatikaya! The damned tree dwellers haven’t stopped asking for you since the incident and I don’t know what else to tell them!”Blinking, I tilted my head slightly.“Oh, I’ll handle that then. Are you wearing panties beneath all of that gear?”The question served to pull a dark blush from the huntress, even as I was forced to duck, lest I receive a slap up the head.“They are better than the usual coverings when it comes to flying, now be quiet!”“You’re wearing human clothes! I thought you hated human clothes-”“These ones are comfortable and unobtrusive! You will speak no more of it! Now go do your job you lazy skxawng!”Grinning as I slipped past the swearing huntress, I refrained from saying anything further, instead skedaddling out of the classroom before she decided to throw one of the knives hanging off of her combat webbing at me.I had a ride to catch, after all.—“So what was it like?!”Glancing up from where I’d been giving Alfa a good petting in the midst of our flight, I turned to look at the familiar figure of G’leem, the youth sat atop his own ikran and breaking the formation of our wing to get close enough to speak with me.Well, yell. But whatever.“What was what like?!”The boy (though he’d be a man soon enough, given just a year or two) made a vague gesture towards his kuru, and I found myself resisting the urge to grumble as I realised what he was getting at.Waiting until Alfa (and the rest of the pack serving as my aerial guard) finished swerving around a particularly large tree), I shouted back.“Stupid! Eywa is a skxawng who tries to be my mom!”Were it not for the goggles covering G’leem’s face, I would have likely seen his eyes bugging out slightly at my response, the youngster seemingly trusting the saddle of his ride to ensure he didn’t fall off while throwing his hands in the air.“Opal! You can’t call Eywa a skxawng! Besides, a bit of your mom was probably talking through her when you spoke! So it kind of was her!”“Yeah well it was weird! Next time she should just look like a giant face or something instead of manipulating me!”“I’m sure she only had the best of intentions!”Scoffing and mentally yanking on my connection with Alfa to prompt the ikran into speeding up a little, I focused on the looming hometree in the distance, several other banshees already moving to confront us as we approached. The words nonetheless left me thinking as I soared through the sky however. Yes, there was a lot of fucked shit involved with…just about everything between Eywa and I. But did that mean I was against her in any true capacity?…No, if only because we both had similar goals, and both stood to benefit in our own regards by cooperating with one another.Especially considering the Omatikaya had apparently gotten the hint somehow and were now desperate enough to outright send messengers to the RDA requesting my presence, whenever they hadn’t been bugging K’seeli about it. To that end, I’d trust the giant moon spanning fungus hivemind. Besides, I was looking forward to seeing Mo’at again, regardless of the circumstances.
