Looking through this 2017 archive was a trip. I turned 30 and things felt on up and up. I didn’t realise until just now how many "iconic" pieces and characters actually started there. It’s one of those rare times where I look at work I did nearly 10 years ago, and I don’t immediately want to cringe—I actually still really like it.

2017 was the year of Elodie. She was brand new then, and I spent about half the year just running with her design, making a constant stream of sexy pinups. It was also a massive year for Peach; I feel like some of his most recognisable art came out of this window. Then, toward the end of the year, Jun showed up. He’s still my favourite character to this day, and looking at these old files makes me want to drop everything and start drawing him again.
The vibe back then was just... different. I miss being so active on Tumblr (RIP), doing art exchanges, and actually talking to artists I looked up to. It felt like a big experiment. We were doing polls here on the site to decide April’s redesign and parts of Elodie’s look—it felt like the community was really building these characters with me.
Outside of art, I was deep into Airsoft in Australia (RIP to that too). I was fully indulging my tacticool side, making YouTube videos and just being obsessed with the gear. I think you can definitely see that influence bleeding into the work from that time.
It was a highlight year for sure, and I’m trying to figure out how to recapture that specific energy and "spark" again.
