Well, I promised time ago to tell something about my trip to Japan, so I'll be making some tiny posts about it with my experience there. I don't know if this will be insteresting or not, but here I go.
End of free part ;3
The plane nightmare
To begin with, I believe most of you know but I'm from Spain.
I decided to pick the plane ticket to travel in my evening to arrive in Japan in the morning. The travel was around 14h long and as I traveled to the east, I "lost" a day in the plane, but that was a normal thing, not the nightmare.
The nightmare was... a kid crying every 20 minutes in the seat in front of me... and I picked the last seat in the plane thinking on avoiding this. Mission failed. I was near to open the plane door, at least in my mind.
A dead corpse with my soul arrived into Narita and then I have to look how to travel to my hotel in Tokyo. It's really easy to tell you the truth. Most or all things in tourist sites are in english, so it was not a big deal. The preparation before the travel, buying the JRPass and getting ready for all was enough (exchanging my currency to yen included)
Without any sleep, I decided to take my breakfast anywhere near Akihabara and sadly the first one was just pancakes. The waiter guided me a bit and most of the things, in this one and in other restaurants and food places, work with QR and webpage.
Akihabara: first day
As a self proclaimed otaku and figure collector, I couldn't miss this part of Japan. I couldn't miss it about the 10 times I was there hahahaha
I'll write about Akihabara in a whole blog entry. There's to much to speak of. One thing I would say is that there are a lot of maids (most of them teens) and that the +18 shops are like your daily normal shop. That surprised me. And also, that the anime and manga Japan is mostly in Akihabara, the rest of the country have little to none of this, only some shops.
Food and drinks of first day
This, as the first day, the jet lag was starting and I did not take any lunch. I drunk the famous Dr. Pepper soda and it was... disappointing. It's just a mix of some fruit flavor, taking the strawberry as the dominant one and with a lot of... how it's said... well, it's a carbonated drink. This ones are not particularly of my taste... and Japan loves them and tea. I prefer sweet drinks.
For dinner, of course, it was the time of ramen. I didn't made a research before the trip to were I could eat. Doing that is a tourist trap and I only recommend doing it if you want to eat specific foods like the Kobe one (we'll talk about this... in other blogs). What I did was setting up my location and ask google maps for restaurants of, in this case, ramen near me.
My first ramen was in a restaurant in the street under the train tracks. For me was a surprise that a lot of restaurants are under there. Forget the forks, you must eat with chopsticks and there are likely to 0 restaurants with forks.
Take a look at the ramen. It was specially good. I was hungry of course, but all the mixed flavors of this one were really nice.
One curious thing about the restaurants is that most of them have free water and a lot of spices for free use in every seat they have.
And 2 things more to end with:
If you are from US, you must ignore your tip custom. The waiter probably will follow you to return you the tip.
Japanese find as a good manners to make a lot of sound when they are, at least, eating anything with soup, ramen included.
There are more things to say, but... enough for today :3
Stay tuned!
PD: sorry for grammar mistakes.
