Portuguese football has embraced a new philosophy focused on developing local talent.
Following an agreement between the country's biggest clubs and the Portuguese Football Federation, Benfica, Sporting CP and FC Porto have committed to building their squads using players from their own regions.
From now on, each club can only sign players who were born in their respective metropolitan areas, forcing Portugal's traditional giants to rely on local scouting, academy development and regional talent.
