Oof this one is a bit shorter this month. A much busier work month has eaten into my dev time considerably lately, but despite that I did get some decent progress on a few different things! For the most part this was a bit of a cleanup month. Spent a lot of time tackling a few loose ends that needed to be cleaned up a bit or added.
Hide Box: Finally got some of the code done on the hide boxes. Bod can now peek and look around while inside it! Still a bit of cleanup to go with it, but it's getting close to a more polished state :D!
Slope Slide: Bod can now slide like a cool guy! Been needing to add in some slope mechanics and animations for Bod for future levels. Wanted to sort of build up an old school sliding system that can be used as checkpoint or no return zones. Once you go down, there is no getting back up!
Level Development: Been working on adding a couple more levels to the demo build! At the moment I'm up to 7 Stealth levels built, and 3 salvage levels built :3!! Starting to get quite a bit that players can test and play around with!
Climbing Cleanup: Spent a bit of time cleaning up some animations or adding a few new animations to Bod's climbing system! Not a ton here, but Bod can finally hop down off of small obstacles with a bit more grace now haha.
Water Testing: This is a cool little side project I've been wanting to finally add into the game! I had a material plugin for an old retro style water feature that was made by the same person who developed my Phong shading system. One of the major obstacles Bod will constantly need to overcome is water in the game. Just getting to play around with this a bit, I can already tell that it's going to be a ton of fun to play with :3!!
Movers and Doors: So a small thing I was able to knock out towards the end of the month was some new tool for my ruins. One of them is a a set of modular background objects that can move across the maps. Think of these as moving platforms, elevators, ect in other games. Likewise I finally spent some time updating my door models to actually work animation wise on the maps.
Texture updates: Spent a bit of time adding some textures to the railing in the game. No more default blue checkerboard for it! Took a bit to get the scaling down so that it can repeat in game, but the end result was worth it!!
Playtesting!!!
Also as a bit of exciting news, I've hit my next internal milestone in terms of mechanics and level build out. I have a new build that is available to playtesting for anyone that is interested! So if you'd like to play around with the current version of the game and provide a bit of feedback just leave a comment and I can shoot yah a message with the build download :3!!
