I'm sure you've all noticed that we've fallen off a bit in the department of how fast new content was delivered, I didn't want to speak on this before until I was sure it was going to go how I imagined it. Basically, I wasn't slacking off, I was fighting for my life (writing a complicated automation script).
It's finally done, meaning that I can focus on working on new scenes without being bogged down by the process of rendering.
Essentially, the tooling and the company behind it have been a bit toxic to the community, generally deleting all the negative comments about their product, they've been way behind the rest of the DCCT industry as far as I can remember in terms of features. The latest alpha of their software is also a dumpster fire. But they've been always trying to find ways to milk their user base, at the forefront of cancerous monetization, such as NFTs, crypto and now monthly subscription BS where they buy up useful scripts and then shut down the store version and try to sell it to you monthly for $20+ a month and other scummy things. This includes paywalling basic things like render batches.
And worst of all, they never quite work right. Horrible at loading scenes, constantly rebuilding the scene graph as opposed to deltas of it (due to it being owned by Nvidia and them having 0 control over it), and it takes way more than it should to push through 20+ GB into VRAM.
Without exaggeration, between loading a complex scene and beginning to render it on a state of the art system there's a 2+ minute delay. Completely unnecessary and should be less than 20-30 seconds (and even that sucks).
This adds up, on the average encounter it's 5 hours of delays that basically just idle the machine.
FIVE HOURS. FIVE. 🤨
I've managed to cut it down, and make it more reliable... And it cannot be taken away from me and sold back to me for a monthly fee. After having purchased the original script!!!
Until now I had to sit in front of this thing and monitor everything because the few times I tried going to bed I found the thing had crashed and rendered nothing during the entire night (or whenever I sleep with my messed up schedule).
