Hi everyone,
It’s time for another dev update!
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been putting a massive amount of work into the rework for Shadows of Ambition — and honestly, it’s becoming far bigger and better than I originally planned.
The new Chapter 1 is currently shaping up to be roughly three times the size of the original version, with a huge focus on:
• Improved writing and dialogue• Better pacing and character development• More choices and branching moments• New cinematics and transitions• Completely reworked scenes• Better music, atmosphere, and sound design• Expanded interactions between characters• More emotional storytelling and worldbuilding
One of my biggest goals with this rework was to make the opening of the game feel far more immersive and memorable, and I’m really happy with how things are turning out so far.
I’ve improved a lot since I first started developing Shadows of Ambition, and I finally feel like I can properly visualize scenes the way I want them to look. The environments are more detailed, the compositions are stronger, and overall the game feels much more cinematic than before.
Alice especially has received a lot more attention this time around. Her relationship with the MC feels much more natural now, with more playful banter, emotional moments, and subtle foreshadowing for future events. A lot of scenes have been rewritten from the ground up to make the characters feel more believable and alive.
I also want the player to have more control over how Luke reacts to certain events and situations. One of my biggest issues with the original version was that choices sometimes felt too random or disconnected from the scene itself. With the rework, I want choices to feel natural and deserved — something that grows organically out of the dialogue and character interactions.
On top of that, I’ve also been working heavily on new systems and UI improvements:
• The collectible/reward system• Steam achievements• Reworked OogleFans menus• Improved replay/gallery presentation• More animated UI elements and transitions• Better visual flow throughout the game
The game overall feels significantly more polished compared to the original release, and I think you guys are really going to notice the difference immediately when starting the new version.
Not going to lie — the technical improvements and UI polish took a huge amount of time, but it was absolutely worth it. Now the main focus is rewriting the dialogue across all chapters and redoing the visuals.
And this isn’t just a simple “conversion” to the new style. I’m actively improving scenes, experimenting with better camera angles, improving visual storytelling, and making moments feel more cinematic and emotionally impactful. The same goes for the writing — most of the dialogue is being rewritten from the ground up so I can naturally integrate the new branching choices and character dynamics.
There’s still a lot left to do, but progress has been very steady lately, and I’m genuinely excited about the direction the game is heading in.
Thank you all so much for the support, patience, feedback, and excitement surrounding the game. Seriously. Seeing the response to the Steam page announcement, the wishlist growth, and all the positive comments has been incredibly motivating.
And if you haven’t already, make sure to add Shadows of Ambition to your Steam wishlist. ❤️
I’ll continue sharing more previews and updates as development progresses.
Much love,AbyssGames
