The family is a lineage of powerful water mages, from a race called Lemurians.
Monet is the odd one out as she is a very poor water mage. She can shoot out water with about as much strength as a public drinking fountain, and has the passive magical ability (that she can't turn off!) that she starts to get damp all over over the course of a few minutes, leaving wet footprints everywhere. She can also talk to water.
