I made a short game to test some gameplay ideas, but it didn’t work out. I liked the concept but didn’t have the tools/skills to bring it to life, but I still liked the character and also just really had an itch that I wanted to make a game starring a crab.
I also wanted to make something in Construct again. It’s so good at some things, like making a platformer, but so cluttered and bad in other place. Then Game Maker is awful for making a platformer but much better in those other places. Sigh!
The game’s name was “Crabbit!”. Like "Grab it" or "Nab it"
You can move left and right but can't jump. You moved vertically by grappling with your claw arm and pulling yourself up or over with special grapple blocks. Not quite Bionic Commando, a bit more puzzley in looking over the scene and trying to figure out how you get where you wanted to go. And with loot to grab, you had to pull it it along with you to an exit point where you could finally cash it in.
The game moved from the shallows to the reefs, a whirlpool, the ocean, and finally some Eldritch depths where monsters slept and the stronger of the mermaid horrors dwell. And where the best loot was for our crab thief to nab. Crabs just seem like a natural underwater heist game protagonist.
