Our story begins in the 90s where a young generation is frequently shown PSAs, environmental messages, and socially positive messaging after, or even during, their cartoons and shows. We jump forward to the near future and in this version of the world, all that messaging worked! People are more civically minded, kids grew up caring about the world and recycling and all that sustainable goodness, so they talked to their parents and society got things done.
We see messages pop up on a screen in a darkened meeting room. No more acid rain! Ozone holes plugged! Recyclable materials up and ocean waste down! The screen stops on the final message: Plastic use no longer popular! The view pulls out and we see that the inhabitants of this smoke-filled room are glum and angry at this message. As people demand sustainable materials, plastic use has dropped! Being seen with single-use plastics now gets you stern glares. They remember back in their days when plastics were the stuff of the future! Now, with the push to create plastic materials that can be recycled, development costs are up and the plastic companies are just barely making reliable and consistent profits that exceed inflation and adjustments for worker quality of life pay increases! Something needs to change!
Proposals are made about getting back into factory farms. A few health scares from animal-to-human diseases could get people interested in campaigns about how hygienic disposable plastic items are. But no, killing off customers isn’t good for business and if that gets too much attention, they’ll actually have to make their products hygienic. They could get back into dumping waste in the ocean? Maybe find some deep water caves so the waste doesn’t bob up to the surface and get the public’s attention! But all those diving missions would be expensive. There’s always radioactive waste and smog. Those are evergreen substances to start pumping out. Why they could have factories ready to spew that out in no time. But nay, they don’t capture the public consciousness. What Industry needs is a way to make plastic waste cool again.
Sensing his time has come, a business man with slicked back hair, a powder blue dress shirt with a white collar, and a red glow behind his shades snaps his suspenders and leans forward. His time has come.
The “Plastic and Proud” campaign sweeps across the nation. The public may not like plastic littering the streets and nature, but they sure love it when it’s being used to advance the nation’s Babe technology. Big Industry can barely keep up with the demand for plastics used in the latest and greatest implant and curve technology. No longer just for women, society knows what’s important and that’s having the biggest implants on the block. Can you even call yourself a man if you can’t stack dishes on your booty? D cups, pffft, look at that square that’s flat as a board. If you’re going to die and leave a corpse behind, why doesn’t that corpse have a rockin’ behind that will fill out your casket for eternity?
The Leaders of Industry are pleased as new factories spring up to meet the fashion world’s demand for new plastics. As plastic reigns in the boardroom, Industry celebrates, but the radioactive waste teams still want in on this and some fame themselves. Can’t we irradiate our nation’s Babes or something? That would surely lead to a healthy glow and maybe some beneficial mutations that would unveil the future of Babe tech. That’s got to be good for everybody and not just profits.
