Granata! If there’s anything people love, and hate, in video games, it’s chucking grenades all about. So our game today is a Smash Bros-style platform fight where everybody fights only with grenades.
Left stick to move
Right stick to aim
And hold the Trigger to power your throw
You can see your aiming line and how far your grenade travels before it explodes, so it’s not like a Worms-style game where dialing in the toss is the gameplay. This is going to be as user friendly as possible to ensure fights are a controlled chaotic mess.
You can’t just spam grenades either. Depending on your character and their grenade types, there’s a cooldown of varying lengths before you can huck your next explosive friend.
And there are so many kinds of explosives to build characters around and fight with!
Regular grenades- explode X seconds after throwing, can be cooked
Fast timers- Like regular grenades but super short timers
Long timer- Like regular but with much longer timers
Cluster grenade- explodes into a series of smaller bombs that explode into smaller bombs
Remote grenade- Doesn't explode until you press the trigger a second time
Sticky grenade- Sticks to surfaces instead of bouncing
Contact grenade- Explodes when touching an opponent
Bounce grenades- Rubbery and bounce all around when they hit walls
Gas- Explodes into a huge gas cloud that does damage over time to anybody touching the cloud
Drill- Thrown like normal but will drill through the ground or walls on contact
Balloons- Start to float up when they hit the ground
Grenocket launcher- Fires the grenade in a straight line very quickly like a rocket launcher
And then you can further customize your loadout with stat changes to the grenades themselves with modifiers!
Timers- change how long it takes to blow
Explosion size vs damage- Change the size of the explosion. Smaller explosions are harder to connect with but do more damage.
After-effects- The grenade leaves behind status effects after exploding- Poison, fire, ice, chain lightning
If you want to really make it chaotic, add Worms-esq destructible environments. Every time a grenade goes off, it destroys part of the field. As the match goes on, the platforms get smaller and smaller and any cover gets blown to bits.
Then, if the match goes on too long, we activate sudden death. The explosions keep getting bigger and bigger without the loss of damage. Last long enough and you’ll probably destroy the entire stage so nobody has anywhere to stand.
