meet Ka-yin!
Kwok Ka-yin is my personal OC, and someone i plan to focus on much more moving forward.
she is a 19 year old homeless girl wandering the streets of a dystopian 2014 hong kong after being kicked out of her family home. she survives off odd jobs, convenience store food, hidden sleeping spots, and the kindness of strangers. despite having almost nothing, she remains warm, friendly, and deeply selfless. she spends her days drifting through the city with a pet rat she rescued from the streets named “Yin-yin”, always making sure he eats before she does.
Ka-yin’s story is quiet, lonely, and most importantly, human. cheap fruit from local vendors. sleeping in places she’s not supposed to be. finding brief moments of warmth in a city that rarely slows down long enough to notice people like her. at the center of her character is the belief that even the smallest living things deserve care, because there is something sacred about caring for another living thing when nobody cares for you.
her story explores identity, survival, free will, bodily autonomy, and the slow erosion of self under systems larger than you.
memories becoming distant.
your body no longer fully feeling like your own.
trying to stay true to who you are while the world forces you into something else.
on the surface, her world feels grounded and human. but beneath it, something darker is moving, slowly pulling Ka-yin toward a fate she never chose for herself.
