Good morning, the weekend is here!
I've officially started the placeholder phase of development! I had a pretty slow start, but I always struggle with major task switching so it was fully expected. By Thursday/Friday I was getting into a proper workflow, and that's actually pretty fast for me 😂
This will be a major development phase that will last months, so the Saturday updates will be changing structure a bit!
What I'll be doing:
Sketching rough placeholders for the images in the game [ backgrounds/sprites/everything ]
Naming and placing the files in the game so they can be easily replaced with finished versions later
Coding definitions for each image at the top of the script
Coding the appearance and animation of images within the script
Editing the script as I go [ this is a more intense editing phase, because I often play through a part several times to make sure the images work right, sometimes lines need to change because I missed a problem or because they don't work with new images ]
Before I show some of the stuff I worked on, I need to make my usual plea for you guys to be respectful of my work by not sharing it online.
Not only do I make my living through this Patreon, but I also really want future players to be able to enjoy the game without a bunch of spoilers posted everywhere by selfish people who'd rather get some attention than respect the development of the game.
Now more than ever, I see a consistent attitude of 'It's your fault for posting it online so it's free game' or 'everyone else is doing it, it's just how things work'. Excuses as old as time, employed by people who apparently have no idea what integrity is.
I'm hoping that you people who choose to be my patrons, are not this type of person.
I don't have to post images of my work, but I do, because I am choosing to trust you guys and have hope again. Please don't betray my trust.
