DESCRIPTION

So the other day we made a post about a project we’ve been working on. Basically, it’s a TaskBar game called PocketMulator, where you’ll be able to have your favorite characters from Dating Killmulator Abel, Florian, and Cain (for now) hanging out at the bottom of your screen while you do other things!!

This project started as a joke and a random conversation in the office. We wanted to try something different from the main game, Dating Killmulator 2, which is also currently in production. I’ve always loved games like The Sims, Fallout Shelter, and Animal Crossing, and this is kind of a mix of all of them, but with Abel, Florian, and Cain.

This isn’t a final version, it’s just a demo. We mainly want feedback to see if this is something more people would be interested in, and what we could do to make it even better. Suggestions are always welcome! We also wanted to make this post so you can see a bit of the behind-the-scenes of working on a small project like this one.

In the game you can build rooms and decorate them however you want, and while you’re doing that, the characters will have needs you’ll have to take care of, all while you do other things, to boost your productivity to 1000%. It’s one of those little taskbar/desktop games that just sits at the bottom of your screen while you work, like Rusty’s Retirement.

I'm Martí and I’ll be talking about the art side of things, because Unai handled the programming. Even though I’m three years into university (kind of a programming major), I still don’t know how to code and honestly, I kind of refuse to learn. Meanwhile, Unai has basically been programming since he was born (or something like that), so yeah… we leave that part to him.

I started doing a drawing with the three characters. This is the first version.

And to put it kindly... NO ONE like them.... they just were too small, so I did another one, the final one:

I took inspiration from Núria’s keychains, because I really like the design.

After that, I made the base of the rooms and some of the furniture. There’s no big secret behind it, just painting pixels. This is how some of them turned out:

After that, I worked on the animations. For the running one, for example, I first made a template and then animated each character based on it:

And finally, after creating the UI for the buttons and adding some extra details (like a pigeon delivering all the furniture) we have our final result (for now!).

We really hope you’ll like this little project that we’ve put a lot of love into. We’ll be leaving a demo so Tier 2-3 Patreons can try it out, enjoy it, and hopefully give us some feedback!!!! :D

FIND THE DEMO ON THE OTHER PATREON POST WE POSTED IF YOU'RE TIER 2 OR 3!
