A year ago, a huge idea started circulating around the office: we wanted to make a blind box, like Sonny Angels, but with cute Dating Killmulator characters.
Cool, right? Turns out, that shit is expensive as fuck and (with our non-existent budget) also very hard to pull off. But a couple of weeks ago, we hit on a different idea.
What if it was a blind box of keychains?
You still get the randomness and the excitement of landing a super exclusive product. Plus, tons of people had requested that we remake the pixel art keychains (if you’ve never owned a pixel art keychain, it’s the coolest shit ever). So, let us introduce the first Dating Killmulator Blindbox!
What’s inside?
We don’t want to spoil the surprise just yet, but we do want to show you what some of them look like! And yes, as with any good blind box, there is an ultra-rare keychain to find.
I’m going to leave you with Martí (who was in charge of the whole merch drop) to talk about his feelings, or whatever else he feels like!
So yeah Martí here! basically everything started when Unai and Núria told me it would be cool if we made a new merch drop and explained the idea of doing blind boxes with keychains. We already had the Pocket Mulator game, so we decided to build it around that. The first three keychains you guys could see were already clear from the beginning: Cain, Abel and Florian doing specific things. That part was the easiest and the one we had defined from the start.
Then came the packaging design! That was a completely new thing for me, since I had never done packaging before, but it turned out to be mostly about following a simple template. The hard part was actually deciding the colors and the overall design itself.
After that came deciding what would actually be inside the blind box. I can’t spoil everything yet, but each keychain turned out really cool. The hardest part was choosing the secret one, but with the help of Núria and Unai, we ended up choosing a cool one hehe
Btw the keychains will look in a similar way they did when we did the drop of Barrio Bros, so for reference this is what it looked like:
Each blind box includes a Pocket Mulator-themed keychain and a collectible card. The first three designs come in one color variation, the next three in another, and the secret one has its own unique design!
We spent a lot of hours building this, and the goal was always to make something special, not just another merch drop (we're also making other products!!)) but something people actually remember. We really hope this one feels like that and that you guys are excited!!!
