Hi guys,
I come with some not-so-great news. This post wasn't supposed to happen. A few hours ago the last animation finished rendering, and I was hoping to release the game today.
Unfortunately, 10 animations are broken.
It wasn't something obvious at first, which is why I missed it until now. Here's what happened: after posing an animation, I render a low-quality version to check that the motion is smooth. That looked fine. Then after I render the animation at full quality I go through it frame by frame to check for clipping and other visual issues. Also fine. Then I bring all the frames into Lightroom for color correction. After that, once every animation is rendered, I import the frames into Premiere, combine them into actual video files, and export them for the game. That's where the problem showed up.
Some of the shower animations have water droplets that aren't animating properly. It wasn't visible in the preview because of how the water is rendered, so everything looked fine, until I checked the final exported animations. Instead of falling at a steady pace, the water accelerates and decelerates in a way that creates a very noticeable glitch when the animation is being played.
I did consider releasing the game as-is and pushing a fix in a few days, but it bothers me too much. It looks bad and I don't want to put something out like that.
Everything else is done. I'm going to fix these animations today and queue them for rendering. The game will be released sometime this week. Most likely toward the end of the week.
I'm sorry for the delay.
Bests,Jason
Whatever Charlotte is suggesting right now, I have a feeling he's going to say yes.
