DESCRIPTION

The morning sun glared blindingly off the endless sheets of packed ice. It offered brilliant light, but absolutely zero warmth.

Inside the glacial cave, the air was suffocatingly tense. The blizzard that had trapped them through the night was finally dead, leaving behind a frozen, desolate wasteland that stretched for miles.

Sakura Haruno aggressively shoved her sleeping bag into her backpack. She pointedly refused to look anywhere near Kenji’s direction. Every time his heavy boots crunched against the ice floor, her spine went completely rigid. A furious, involuntary flush crept up her neck, burning hot against the freezing air. She hated him. She hated his smug face. But worse, she hated her own hands, which had betrayed her in the dark the night before.

Across the dead campfire, Sasuke sat cross-legged. He was running a whetstone over his kunai. His dark eyes were fixed on the blade, brooding silently, completely detached from the rest of the team. Naruto, meanwhile, was doing rapid-fire squats near the cave entrance, his breath pluming in the cold air, completely oblivious to the heavy psychological rot eating his team from the inside out.

Kenji leaned against a frozen pillar of ice. He chewed lazily on a high-calorie ration bar, his dark eyes scanning the room. The board was perfectly set.

Then, a shrill, desperate voice shattered the silence.

"I am not taking another step!"

Princess Yukie Fujikaze stood near the rear of the cavern. She was buried beneath three layers of thick, expensive fur, but she was trembling violently. Her face was pale, her eyes bloodshot from the cheap sake she had downed the night before. The hangover, the biting cold, and the creeping terror of her homeland had finally pushed the actress past her breaking point.

Director Sandayu dropped to his knees right into the snow. He clasped his hands together in a frantic, sweating prayer. "Princess, please! I beg you! The weather has cleared! The filming location is only a few miles away! If we stop now, the studio will go bankrupt!"

"Let them go bankrupt!" Yukie shrieked. She kicked a pile of crushed ice directly into Sandayu's pleading face. "I never wanted to come here! You kidnapped me! These Konoha thugs dragged me onto that ship against my will, and I am turning back right now!"

Kakashi Hatake sighed loudly. He didn't even bother looking up from his orange book. He just casually flipped a page with his gloved thumb.

"Kenji," Kakashi said flatly. "Handle the client."

Kenji swallowed the last bite of his ration bar. He tossed the wrapper into the ashes of the dead fire. He dusted off his hands and pushed off the ice pillar, walking slowly toward the back of the cave.

"Stay away from me, you arrogant brat!" Yukie yelled as Kenji approached.

She backed up rapidly until her shoulders hit the solid, frozen wall of the glacier. There was nowhere left to run. Her dark eyes flashed with a volatile mix of diva entitlement and raw, unfiltered panic.

Kenji didn't stop. He didn't slow his pace. He closed the distance until he was standing entirely within her personal space, his broad frame completely blocking her only path to the exit.

"The tantrum was cute on the ship, Princess," Kenji stated. His voice was a flat, deadpan rumble that easily cut through her hysterics. "But out here, in enemy territory, it's just annoying. Pick up your bag."

"Don't you dare give me orders!"

Yukie’s fear flared into pure, defensive rage. She reached down blindly, grabbing a heavy, metal water canteen from a nearby supply crate. Gripping it with both hands, she swung the solid steel block wildly, aiming squarely at the side of his head.

SMACK.

Kenji didn’t even blink.

His left hand shot up like a striking viper. He caught her wrist in a vice-like grip mere inches from his temple. The sheer kinetic force of his block jarred her arm. Her fingers went numb, and the heavy canteen slipped from her grasp, clattering loudly against the ice floor.

He didn't let go.

Kenji twisted her wrist sharply—not enough to break the bone, but enough to completely shatter her balance. He yanked her forward with brute force. Yukie stumbled hard, her chest crashing directly against his.

"Let go of me!" she gasped, struggling frantically against his iron grip. She pounded her free fist against his shoulder, but it was like hitting a brick wall.

"You're pathetic," Kenji whispered.

The words hit her harder than any physical blow. Yukie froze. Her eyes widened as she looked up into his cold, predatory gaze.

"You walk around wearing this 'Princess Gale' mask, acting like an untouchable movie star," Kenji continued. His voice dropped to a harsh, mocking whisper right against her ear, vibrating with absolute dominance. "You drink yourself into a stupor and scream at your director because throwing a fit is easier than facing reality."

Kenji shifted his stance. He trapped her other wrist, crossing her arms and pinning both of her hands flush against his chest with a single, massive hand. He leaned down, his shadow utterly engulfing her.

"But I know exactly who you are," Kenji sneered. "You aren't Princess Gale. You're Koyuki Kazahana. And you are absolutely terrified."

Yukie's breath hitched violently in her throat. The color drained entirely from her face, leaving her looking like a ghost. The true name she had buried beneath years of scripts, heavy makeup, and alcohol had just been violently dragged into the light.

"How do you..." she stammered, her body beginning to shake uncontrollably against him.

"I told you on the ship. I know you're running from the snow," Kenji interrupted. His dark eyes bored directly into her soul, stripping away the last remaining layers of her defense. "You're terrified of Doto. You think that if you play the spoiled, drunken actress long enough, the little girl who watched her father burn to death will just magically disappear."

"Stop it!" Yukie cried out.

Her bravado was completely and utterly shattered. Tears pooled in her eyes, spilling over her dark lashes as she tried desperately to pull away from his overwhelming physical presence.

"You don't know anything about me! You don't know what he did!" she sobbed, her voice breaking.

"I know that running away makes you a coward," Kenji said coldly.

He released her wrists, but he didn't step back. Instead, he let his large hand slide up her neck. He gripped her jaw firmly, his thumb pressing against her cheek, forcing her to look up and meet his gaze.

"Doto is just a man in a metal suit," Kenji stated, his voice radiating a dark, unwavering certainty. "He bleeds like anyone else. Stop acting like a victim and start acting like the heir to a throne."

Yukie trembled under his touch. The arrogant, untouchable movie star was entirely dead. In her place stood a broken, vulnerable woman whose deepest, darkest fears had just been laid bare in the freezing cold.

She wanted to hate him. She wanted to scream for help. But staring up into his dark eyes, she felt an undeniable, magnetic pull. His absolute, crushing confidence was a towering fortress. Right now, it was the only thing standing between her and the suffocating terror of her past.

"If you want to survive this," Kenji whispered softly. His thumb brushed a tear from her freezing cheek in a rare, deceptive show of gentleness. "You drop the script. You obey me. And I will personally hand you Doto's head on a silver platter. Do we have a deal, Koyuki?"

She couldn't speak. Her chest heaved as the icy walls of her psychological defenses completely crumbled around her.

Slowly, completely defeated by his gravity, she nodded.

Kenji smirked. The corner of his mouth twitched upward in victory. He released her jaw and patted her softly on the cheek.

"Good girl. Now wipe your face. We have a movie to shoot."

As Kenji turned his back and walked away toward the rest of the silent team, a glowing blue screen flickered to life in his peripheral vision.
