First Time Shooting With A Green Screen

DESCRIPTION

This was my first time photographing in front of a green screen. I set up a little video experiment and had my model stand in front of the screen while I filmed and tested out ways to make it look like we were in a different environment.

For this shoot I had him groom himself while I videoed him. I used that natural movement to see how well the green screen could handle real actions. I was just trying to get a feel for how green screens work and how realistic I could make everything look. It was a fun learning experience and in the end I opted to use a solid background because that's what looked the most realistic. I then converted the footage to black and white and sped it up to give a time lapse feel.

What this experiment reaffirmed for me was something I really already knew going in... lighting is crucial when shooting content in general but especially content intended for green screen. It's the key to achieving a believable composition.

BTS snaps of what the green screen looked like attached.
