So Jupiter actually came along extremely efficiently. I don't know what was happening while I worked on it, but the ease of creation on this guy is a high I have been chasing pretty much since I made it. I believe this was my first work where I experimented with using the mixer brush to generated fluid, tapering elements such as tails and spines. That's been a technique I have since incorporated into just about anything that I have made with similar elements; it's quite frankly just too perfect of a balance between the look I am after and ease-of-creation to go back from.
Jupiter is very much a big, beautiful, cloudy, storm-king to me, so aside from pulling elements directly from the planet's high-res shots of its clouds for colors, I wanted to make sure all of the VFX pointed very obviously towards that.
