DESCRIPTION

I'm looking at my ink tests again, for the new animation I did for The Thief and the Cobbler, which turned out to mostly be unusable, or at least not turning out as well as I thought it was, once I actually saw it in motion. (These were all in color too, which was wasted-ish work.) I've corrected a few of the shots in the later part of the reel (which lasts about a minute), but the shots toward the beginning are still very messy and it's sad to see after so much wasted work ...I haven't looked at these since April.I was "working blind" to an extent, with an unusual workflow combining traditional paper work, and digital work. I didn't see the actual shots in motion until they were supposedly done, at which point it became clear that there were lots of problems.

I will probably fix some of the shots, but I'd like to make the motion work better before I do. And motion is not something I'm skilled at ... I needed another set of eyes on it, to get some real animation going in these shots before I'd done all this work. There were problems that should have been solved at a much earlier stage. I would have liked to just have done the keys, and hand them to someone else to flesh out the motion a bit. I put out a call for animators that didn't have any result.

Kiko Pablo and Dennis Van Hout have done some excellent new shots for the film, and I wanted to meet that standard. Kiko Pablo is still working on two shots at this time.

I attempted to animate about thirty seconds of material, and was probably over ambitious with it. The overall "bones" of the scenes are good, with some useable key artwork, but the motion is weak and the volumes and details are inconsistent. Much of it needs a rethink, which is sad after many months of work.If any pro animators want to consult on this, let me know.
