DESCRIPTION

Hey everyone — this one has been a long (LONG) time coming, and I'm genuinely excited to finally put it in your hands.

Follower Kaylin is the first major content release for The Accorded, the companion expansion for Become High King of Skyrim: The Next Generation. This beta covers Kaylin Thornwynd — her follower system, her full story quest, and her romance questline. It's a lot. Let's dig in.

Who Is Kaylin Thornwynd?

Kaylin is a Nord archer and member of The Accorded — a scouting and mercenary guild based in Highreach Keep. She's guarded, dry-humored, and carries a past she hasn't finished reckoning with. She grew up in High Rock in the back of her family's caravan, learned to read people before she learned to read books, and ended up in Highreach because someone told her The Accorded takes people who are trying. She figured they'd turn her away. They didn't. She's still not sure why.

She wears custom armor, fights as a ranger, heals herself, and has the kind of instincts that keep both of you alive in a fight. She also has more to say than most companions you've met — about her past, about the guild, about what she thinks of where you are and where you're going.

The Affinity System

Kaylin doesn't open up because you asked nicely. She opens up because you've been through things together.

Her dialogue is organized in four tiers that unlock based on your affinity score with her:

Early (Affinity < 25)

Growing (Affinity 25–50)

Trust (Affinity 50+)

Close (Affinity 85+)

That's 28 conversation threads, dozens of individual topics, all gating naturally as your relationship develops.

She Reacts to the World Around You

Kaylin isn't just waiting to be talked to. She has passive idles, hellos, and goodbyes across every affinity tier. She reacts to rain, cold, and clear weather. She has unique lines in Highreach - early on she thinks it's beautiful and grand; later, when the place has become home, she asks if home feels good. She greets you differently when the romance is active (more on this later).

She also pays attention to who you're talking to. Six NPCs across Skyrim will say something unflattering about Kaylin if she's with you — Mikael the bard, Erikur in Solitude, Rolff Stone-Fist in Windhelm, Nazeem in Whiterun, Maven Black-Briar, and a certain child in Dragonsreach. When they do, you get a choice: defend her, ignore it, or agree with them. Your choice affects your affinity with her. She notices. She remembers.

She Calls Fights Like a Scout

Kaylin has custom combat dialogue for over twenty enemy types. She's not just shouting generic war-cries. She's giving tactical callouts based on what you're fighting:

"Kill the mage first! Dead things fall without them!" — necromancers

"Don't breathe the spit!" — chaurus

"Magic or silver! Check what you're carrying!" — ghosts

"Ankles! Stay low!" — giants

"Thralls first. Then the vampire." — vampires

"I wish we could have been friends instead!" — when fighting a skilled female opponent

She also has kill reactions, hit responses, and lines when she gets downed. The combat voice is distinct and it's hers.

"The Weight of Dreams" — Kaylin's Sister Quest

Kaylin Thornwynd carries a past she doesn't talk about — a sister she left behind in High Rock, a wound that hasn't closed, and a guilt she's spent years outrunning. When a rumor reaches Highreach about a woman matching Kaylin's description living rough on the Dawnstar shore, you're the one who has to decide what to do with that information. What follows is a quest about Daedric influence, a family fractured by loss, and two sisters who have been carrying the same grief from opposite directions. The path to resolution depends on your history with Skyrim — specifically with one particular Daedric Prince and the people who serve him. However it resolves, it ends at Coldrun Lake at night, with Veldar performing a ritual that is equal parts magic and the kind of honest conversation neither sister has been able to have for five years. When it's done, Elara joins Highreach — and what she does here is up to you.

"The Heart Wants" — Kaylin's Romance Quest

After everything you've been through together, feelings have a way of making themselves known. The Heart Wants is a romance questline that unfolds differently depending on your marital status — one path for those who rule alone, another for those whose throne comes with a spouse. Both paths involve taking Kaylin on dates across Highreach, navigating the opinions of your council, and having the kind of conversations that only happen when affinity has been earned over time. The single path is about choosing someone the crown will never recognize. The affair path is about consequences — a suspicion system that builds in the background until it doesn't, a confrontation with your spouse that forces a real decision, and political fallout that ripples across Skyrim's holds. Neither path gives Kaylin everything she wants. Both of them are honest about that.

This is a beta. Please report anything that feels broken, weird, or just off. I'm especially interested in:

Quest flow issues — places where things stall, skip, or fire at the wrong time

Dialogue that fires when it shouldn't (or doesn't fire when it should)

Elara's path to her three jobs — does each option work correctly?

The ritual scene at Coldrun Lake — does it complete cleanly?

The affair path suspicion system — does it escalate and discover correctly?

Any dialogue that feels out of character

Audio that is chopped off at the end or abrupt. Remember to report these specifically. The more info you can tell me to find the audio line the better.

The save game warning applies here. Beta is beta. Back up before you install.

REQUIRED - BHKS-TNG main mod....duh.
