One of my favorite part about live shows is getting to do the same thing I do with albums - crafting an interconnected world between the songs, implementing repeated motifs, turning them into one giant story- but with every song from my entire catalogue. There are themes that have continued in my songwriting over the course of 10+ years, and it's exciting to be able to highlight those themes to reveal more facets of the song's lyrics.
This combination of Fuse and Eyes Half Closed I made for the OBLIVIØN tour does just that, outlining the connections between the two songs and the progression of those themes over the course of the 6 years between Angels and Skeletons. I wasn't planning on playing it in these acoustic sets, but for a few of them I've stumbled upon these particular moments of emotion that call for it.
The acoustics at so many of these venues have also been so expansive and rich that they've given me chills and have brought this song out, because no song I've written utilizes those kinds of acoustics like Fuse. If I want to perform it in a set I have to be very, very careful with my voice beforehand though, because when my voice is strained these ultra-high notes are the first thing to go.
