Thank you all for your support in 2020. It allowed us to make some much-needed changes to Push to Kindle which we simply would not have been able to make without your support and feedback. We plan to continue that work in 2021, so here's a brief overview of what we have in store.
Improving article extraction
One big area of focus will be improving how we identify and extract article content from web pages. Last year we worked a lot on making it possible to have web page content sent directly from your browser to our service.
The year, one area of focus will be improving automatic article extraction to better identify and separate article content from the rest of the web page. This should also improve the metadata that gets extracted, e.g. author and date information, as well as article images.
As always, we appreciate reports of sites that need attention, so feel free to continue reporting problem sites to us.
Updating the Safari desktop extension
We'll be releasing a new Safari extension to bring functionality in line with our Chrome and Firefox extensions. (At the moment users of our Safari extension do not benefit from the browser-retrieved content processing available in Chrome and Firefox.)
Until that's ready, our bookmarklet can be used on Safari to send article content directly from the browser to the service.
Full-screen article view
Soon you will be able to expand the preview panel to read the article content more easily in your browser. Useful for articles which perhaps you want to jump into and start reading before they land on your Kindle.
Annual payments
We've enabled annual payments on our Patreon membership plans. If you opt for annual payments, you will get a discount of two months free (16% off). New patrons will be given the option of paying for a year up front. Existing patrons can switch to annual payments.
The following steps will help you switch over your pledge to annual.
Log in to Patreon, hover over your profile icon in the top right corner, and select Manage Memberships
From your Active Memberships page click Edit next to the pledge you want to change
You’ll see a checkout page where you can select Annual
Click Update. Note: you’ll be charged upfront for the discounted price
Removing the lite tier for new users
In the next few days we'll be removing the lite tier ($1/month for 60 credits) for new signups. Current patrons (on any tier) will not be affected and will still be able to switch to the lite tier at any time in the future. We'll have more information about that when we've made the change.
The other tiers will remain unchanged, and with the annual payment option mentioned above will work out cheaper than before.
The reason for this change is that with card processing fees and Patreon fees on top, we see very little of the $1 patrons pay each month. And unfortunately it's not possible to accept only annual payments for this tier to reduce transaction fees.
But we want to stress that this change will only affect new signups and not existing patrons, so no one will be asked to pay more.
