Seeing more of Violet's past after spending so much time watching her write beautiful letters.. was honestly shocking. The way she moved on the battlefield. Completely expressionless. Taking down person after person without hesitation. It almost didn't feel like I was watching the same character. She was so insanely lethal..While Violet slipped into darkness after learning about Major's death.. It made me realize how isolating a loss can be. We do anything to take it back and deny it at first. We bargain. We yell and scream and get angry. We slip into ourselves.. Into the darkness. It's never a straightforward checklist either. These emotions fade in/out and this show did an incredible job at showing Violet dealing with all of these emotions. Dealing with a loss.After seeing the flashbacks of Violet with the Major in their final moments, I can't help but wonder if their love is romantic or nurturing. Maybe it was the love of someone who desperately wanted to protect a child who had been forced to grow up in war far too soon. His sad eyes say so much. Although.. that line about beautiful eyes still has me wondering if those feelings slowly became something more.I'm not sure.. But one thing I'm completely sure of now is that he did love her. Deeply.No matter what form that love took, he cared about Violet with everything he had.From the bottom of his heart.This show continues to surprise me. Every episode somehow finds another beautiful way to explore the sadder parts of life. Loss, lost love, healing.
