Avatar: The Last Airbender | Book One: Episodes 16-18 | Unedited Reaction

These three episodes remind me why I keep falling more and more in love with this series.I already ranted for awhile in all of my outros, so I'll try to keep this post watch blog a bit shorter...But wow, this show just keeps giving me so much food for thought every time I sit down to watch more.

I think my biggest takeaway was honestly seeing fire bending from a completely different perspective. Until the episode with Jeong Jeong, I always kind of assumed that the Fire Nation had it good. They're winning the war, they've conquered so much of the world, and they seem to hold all the power. Must be nice to be them. But after hearing what Jeong Jeong said about being burdened with fire bending.. How it only wants to consume, destroy, and burn everything you own. I realized how much harder to control fire bending must be compared to the others.I also LOVE that he is the one who trained Admiral Zhao.It makes his arrogance and obsession with power make even more sense.He learned the techniques but completely ignored the wisdom.And watching Aang use Jeong Jeong's lessons to beat Zhao was so satisfying LOLThe Northern Air Temple episode also had me reflecting a ton. I loved the conversation about progress and technology. At first it felt really sad and honestly angering to see an ancient temple change so much. Pipes going through murals, statues being destroyed for a bath.. But then the show asked us all a really interesting question: Is change itself actually bad? Imagine if we somehow time traveled 100 years into the future and walked into our homes.Would there still be the same home? The same technology? The same people with the same needs?We'd probably think everything looked strange, too. Like our lives were forgotten and pointless..Through this cartoon I realized something huge. Technology doesn't have morality.People give it morality by how they choose to use it.I couldn't help but think about AI while watching.Progress can absolutely be scary...But adapting to it can also be one of humanity's greatest strengths!We just have to use it for good instead of harm.Then there was the Northern Water Tribe. Gran Gran's lore is insane! Honestly, good for her.. And good for Katara too! Watching her stand up to Pakku wasn't just about proving she was talented. It was about proving traditions shouldn't survive simply because they're old and sacred. Sometimes respecting the past also means having the courage to change it. I loved seeing Pakku realize that.Growth is one of my favorite themes in these stories.And this show keeps reminding me how much civilization have to grow, too.I can't wait to finish Book 1 with you guys next week with the final two episodes!I'm nervous...
