Here’s something I’ve been sitting on for a while, and it’s a little different from the usual can holder stuff. More of those are definitely still coming, but I’ve also had people asking for some different types of designs, so I figured this would be a fun one to mix into the lineup.
The overall concept is a customizable sign system that works and looks kind of like an old LCD display, digital clock, or calculator. Each character is made from one main block and seven individual bar elements arranged in the classic seven-segment layout. Each bar is held in place with an integrated detent and can be installed in either direction. One side can match the main block color so it visually blends in and looks “off.” Flip that same bar around, and the contrasting color or pattern becomes the “on” segment.
So you can build a word, name, number, or short message — and then change it later by pushing the bars out, flipping them around, and rearranging the display.
Everything is fully 3D printed.
No extra hardware.No glue.No supports.
The main blocks connect together using separate printed links, so you can build the sign as short or long as you want. Print a few blocks for a small desk sign, or print more blocks for a longer display. The whole system can also be scaled up or down depending on what you want to make.
The first version is built around that classic seven-segment look, so it has some of that old calculator charm. Some letters work great, some are a little weird, and honestly that is part of the fun. It reminds me of being a kid typing words into a calculator and trying to make it say something ridiculous.
For this first version, I’m also including a pencil-style version of the bar elements. That immediately opened up a lot of possibilities. A teacher desk sign with a name spelled out in different colored pencil segments feels like an obvious one. Cute, simple, customizable, and very giftable.
And that’s where I think this could get really fun. This first release is basically the starting point for a whole world of possibilities. The bar elements could be different shapes, different themes, different colors, or different textures. Squared-off bars, rounded bars, pencils, crayons, bones, slime, glow-in-the-dark, RGB-style colors, black-and-white themes, seasonal versions, and plenty more.
I could also see future add-ons like punctuation blocks, vertical links for two-row signs, desk stands, wall mounts, raised character blocks, logo blocks, icon blocks, holiday packs, classroom packs, vendor booth signs, countdown signs, and whatever else people come up with.
A Christmas version with Santa and reindeer blocks counting down the days?A Halloween version with bone or slime segments?A classroom version with pencil and crayon bars?A glow-in-the-dark desk sign?
I think this could be a good seller too so if you are looking to increase your revenues, here's your sign :).
