Hello!
This month's Grimdark updates reach it's insane climax! As usual, I'll be keeping most of the Grimdark WIPs off patreon due for Angry Company reasons. Patreon as a platform also has stricter policies now so that's another reason. I've sent all members emails for the complete set of WIPs and high resolution turntables. Please leave any reactions and comments on this post. Thanks!
So long term community members know that I have a huge grudge against the T'au. The animosity started all the way back in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade when the blueberries had the audacity to frolick onto my screen and start spraying blue cheese everywhere. Like, wtf DOW? Talk about impropriety. 😤
Things did not get better from there. Reading the Damocles Crusade lore is basically reading a literary crime against Space Marines. You're telling me one Chapter Master and one Captain with the tile of Master of the Hunt let one (uno!) T'au Commander slip away, a race that is famously inept in close combat?
Oh, you bet I felt the same rage Spurs fans feel against De'Aaron Fox in this year's NBA playoffs. Yeah, no. Save that propaganda for the Gue'vesa that suckle at the T'au Empire's teats. If I want to read about Space Marine f***ups, I'll just pick up any book that features Abaddon, thank you very much. 😤
And after watching decades of the writers glazing the T'au with increasing amounts of Roquefort while letting them poke the bear, I've had enough. It's time for some FAFO. And who better to deliver that beatdown than a horde of screaming nuns that (literally) whip each other into a frenzy.
That's right, to fight blue cheese, I made Big E grade BS of my own. For anyone who hates T'au, cheer as they tank the most destructive ranged weapons in 40K with nothing but faith and chew through the toughest armor faster than a biblical plague of locusts through a wheat field.
Kick back with glass full of blueberry tears as I rectify some of the most egregious lore in the setting. I like to think the Bloody Martyr sent Shadowsun's head to Kor'sarro Khan with a note saying "Finished the job for you, lol 😘".
What, you think a horde of screaming nuns couldn't chew through an entire T'au army wielding giant f***off chainswords? Oh ye of little faith. Didn't you know that with Big E, all things are possible? 😉 Also, I played Soulstorm, so I have a pretty good idea how these units would rip through armor in the right circumstances.
So yeah, as the title implies went full on insaneo style for the Repentia. The absurd premise of this unit generates tons of poses, weapon options and memes which you can see in the images. But broadly speaking, they will get three distinct costumes, three distinct weapon poses for glorious melee and three different weapons. They'll also get an incredible amount of head variations for your personal preference of insanity (added the 'my face is my shield' meme as a fan request). The combinations are almost endless!
And like I said in my first post about my homebrew Bloody Martyrs Order, they have the Death Korps of Krieg mentality when it comes to their morale officers. They just get in the way.
Onto the Death Guard and Salamander proxies! I've give these units different weapon and style variations. The Death Guard especially, I experimented with different Nurgle blessings. I've said it before but Nurgle is definitely one of the best Chaos factions from a purely variety viewpoint. You can do so much with Nurgle related units that you can't really with the other Chaos factions or at least not to the same extent.
So I usually like to make my designs anatomically correct to real life. However, I've recently been told that tabletop fans prefer the heads to be enlarged for their miniatures as it looks better at tabletop scale. With that in mind, designed the Death Guard and Salamander Heads to have a roughly 10-20% larger helmets. I included some angles to show how they would look from the player's perspective.
If miniature fans prefer the larger size, please let me know and I'll do that moving forward. If you want the more anatomically correct versions, that's available too.
Fantasy voting is running right now! The bonus reward will be shown once the final results are in. Stay tuned!
