Hello gang,Long time no speak.
I’ve been deep in the dungeons working on the next project (and a bunch of other stuff), but I thought I’d take a little break to check back in and give you all an update on where we’re at.
🎬 Otachan! Call to Action - Progress
We’re getting very close now.
I’d say around 95% of the animation is in, and about 90% of the backgrounds are complete so we’re pretty darn close.
On a practical level, here’s what’s left:
Thorough correction checks
Genga
Inbetweening + colouring
Composition
And then… we’re done.A cute, complete little Otachan! project.
With so much of the layout now in, I’ve taken the opportunity to build a more comprehensive animatic. This lets me:
See if my shitty jokes actually land
Check that the timing feels right
Get a better sense of music and overall flow
So far, I’m happy with how it’s progressing (albeit a little slow, as usual)
No matter how many times we go through this process, it’s always exciting seeing Frankie’s voiceover synced to the animation.
I mentioned in previous updates that this project shares some DNA with older Otachan! work. Even though that wasn’t intentional, it’s been really interesting seeing how that’s naturally come through.
👕 Otachan! Merchandise Update
I’ve been dividing my time between episode production and merchandise design.
Switching hats like that is always a bit tricky but we’ve made some solid progress here too.
I don’t want to reveal too much just yet, but we’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with a Kenichi Sonoda-inspired style, which I think really suits Otachan.
There’s still a fair bit left to do:
Finalising outstanding items
Preparing samples
Photographing everything
Building out the website
So yeah… still lots to go.
I’ll do a dedicated post showing everything once it’s ready.
✨ Otachan! Sticker Pack One
We’ve just received our first batch of stickers!
Huge thank you to our amazing friend and artist iloveexotic.
I came to him with a rather… nebulous brief titled:
“Magical Hyper Bitch Influencer Otachan!”
I asked him about his approach to the designs, and here’s what he said:
今回のイラストは魔法少女的キャラクターデザインの新たな可能性を探るため、それぞれにストリート的要素を少しずつ取り入れました。とても楽しい挑戦でした。今後も可能性を探ってみようと思います。
Translation:For this illustration, I incorporated subtle street-style elements into each character design to explore new possibilities for magical girl-style character design. It was a really fun challenge, and I’d like to keep exploring this direction going forward.
📦 Otachan! Patreon Rewards
Now that the stickers are complete, I can finally start:
Pricing everything properly
Understanding shipping costs
Planning the structure of the rewards
This puts us in a good position to begin preparing the formal Patreon rewards announcement.
I’ve intentionally taken my time with this. Just to make sure everything runs smoothly before promising anything publicly.

We’re already 3 months into the year, which is kind of insane.
Time is moving fast, and it’s easy to get caught up in just pushing forward nonstop.
There’s still a lot I want to get done this year and I’m working hard to deliver on all of it.
But I think it’s important to stop every now and then, look around, and just appreciate where you are for a moment.
