Devlog Update: Lore & Mechanics
Hello everyone! This week’s game development report is here, and as you can see from the teaser GIF, progress is moving even faster than anticipated. Before we dive into the new mechanics, let’s talk about the world-building and the dark reality of our protagonist.
The Lore: Project Black Water
The game is set during a fictional joint operation between the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Thai Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB).
The Mission: To disrupt the flow of precursor chemicals (such as ephedrine and acetic anhydride) entering Myanmar and the finished crystal meth flowing back out via the Mekong River.
The Setting: Operating out of a discreet "black site" in Chiang Rai, the Mekong Interdiction Task Force (MITF) has access to high-tech surveillance but zero legal jurisdiction once they cross the border. In the "Golden Triangle," you are effectively off the grid.
The Stakes: Following a sudden regional conflict and a devastating intelligence leak, the protagonist is cut off from official support. To survive and succeed, they must resort to "extreme measures" that no standard operation would ever sanction.
The Protagonist: A Fragile Balance
Our lead is not a rookie, but they aren't a hardened veteran either. With roughly five years of field experience, they are seasoned enough to survive but vulnerable enough to be tempted. The game focuses heavily on this internal struggle - balancing the mission against the lure of corruption, addiction, feminization/sex trade.
Location Spotlight: Ban Phraya
The heart of the game is Ban Phraya (The "Village of the Lord"). It is a "protected" zone where the cartel’s word is the only law.
The Hillsides: Beautiful, sprawling landscapes where local farmers are forced to harvest opium alongside coffee. Cartel outposts monitor every movement with drones and binoculars.
The "Guest House": A high-security compound for international criminals and "drug tourists." It is a fortress guarded by armed locals and reinforced steel.
The Red-Light District: In a world where the protagonist has no official funding, survival requires money. The village is rife with illegal clinics and brothels. To fund the mission, the protagonist is tempted to work as a "Phu-ying", a term used within the district by those working the trade, regardless of their gender, to prostitute themselves.
Development Progress
The GIF showcases our new Map and Travel System. While the footage is a low-resolution preview, it highlights several core systems now fully integrated into the engine:
Location & Save Systems: I have implemented full location data and node differentiation. You can now click on specific houses or landmarks to view descriptions and travel to them. The save system is now tied to these locations.
Time & Resource Management: Every move costs time and resources. The UI now displays the requirements for travel, and the in-game calendar advances accordingly. A complete Rations System is also active, though not fully shown in the clip.
Dynamic Graphics: Despite being a point-and-click game with a modified turn-based combat system, I am prioritizing high-quality graphic interfaces and animations to keep the experience immersive.
What’s Next?
In just under two weeks, the base functionality of the game is complete. If we maintain this pace, an Alpha Version will be ready for supporters sooner than expected.
Tomorrow’s Goal: I will begin implementing the Wardrobe and Player Customization functions. Since the initial coding for the game system is mostly finished, I can now focus on visual depth.
Community Poll: I’ve set up a short poll regarding the first batch of wardrobe options. Make sure to cast your vote and help shape the future of Agent Feminine.
