Devlog Update: Terrain Types, Enemy Interactions, Loot Mechanics, and More

In this update, I’ve introduced several new systems focused on terrain significance and enemy behavior. I’ve also squashed multiple bugs and finally integrated dialogue into the core loop, making the Closed Alpha officially ready for playtesting!

Terrain Types & Environmental Impact

Terrain is no longer just a backdrop for ambiance. Backgrounds now play a functional role in your survival strategy. When you hover your cursor over a tile, a notification at the bottom of the screen will display the current Danger Level.

There are currently four distinct terrain types:

Road (Yellow Path): The safest route. It offers a significantly lower chance of negative events or enemy ambushes during interactions.

Wild (Greenery): The outskirts of the village. Expect an increased frequency of hostile events and enemy sightings.

Shelter (Home Tiles): A safe haven. These tiles offer the lowest chance of attack and provide a healing bonus while resting.

Forest (Trees): High-risk, high-reward. The encounter rate is very high here, making it the ideal spot to farm resources - if you can survive.

Enemy Interactions: Brigand Generation

I’ve populated the map with active Brigands and implemented a tiered difficulty system. There are now four difficulty levels, with loot quality scaling alongside the challenge:

White & Blue (Common): Easier than standard "Danger Zone" enemies. These are perfect for early-game practice, though they rarely drop anything beyond Rare-tier items.

Orange (Elite): Rarer and noticeably tougher. However, they have a high chance of dropping Unique weapons and accessories, which often come with innate abilities.

Rainbow (Legendary): The ultimate challenge. These enemies have a 30% base chance to drop Legendary loot. While I plan to add more armor options to balance the scaling, for now, you’ll need a top-tier build and optimized Ability Pucks to stand a chance.

Enemy Interactions: Corruption & Hormones

I’ve introduced a "Molest" mechanic for enemies, where they will attempt to inject hormones or tear the player's clothing during combat.

The Risk: Each turn, enemies have a chance to initiate these advances.

The Choice: You can spend 1 AP to slap them away and maintain your composure, or conserve your AP for offensive strikes at the risk of letting them get closer.

The Penalty: If left ignored for two turns, your Hormones will increase by 30 or Corruption by 1. Additionally, "Corruption Hands" will add a stack of Ripped Clothes. At three stacks, the player becomes fully unclothed.

Miscellaneous Improvements

While the systems above are flashy, the bulk of this update focused on a massive UI/UX overhaul to make the experience feel more premium:

World Map Polish: Added inertia to map cursors and implemented terrain-specific visual effects.

Interactive UI: Reworked the general interface to respond dynamically to cursor movement.

Inventory Overhaul: Redesigned the Inventory UI for better clarity and ease of use.

Visual Refinement: Smoothed out rough edges across all menus and icons for a cleaner look.
