DESCRIPTION

I'm back to deliver some new tidbits on what's to come for the next major 1.17 update. It started as a focus on bundles but turned into a grab-bag of stuff. I want to touch on some of the bigger items, but will do briefly as I the release blog post will dive into the meat then.

Browsing Bundles

Lots of bundle friendly improvements are coming to allow you both browse and log bundles in a different way.

The game page will now have a way to see what games both contain and are contained by other bundles, just like the other game categories. Logging will also be expanded to let you specify a bundle like you can with editions today.

The Great Game Decrease

Get ready for your profile to say you played less games and now you're questioning whether you're actually a gamer or not. Don't worry, I can explain!

Games will soon be categorized into two buckets: base games and extras. Your profile will soon only display the total of base games you've played instead of all of them. This will not affect how you browse your games, as it'll default to showing them all.

Base games are:

Main games, expanded games, standalone expansions, remakes, remasters, ports, forks, and mods

Extras are:

DLC, expansions, bundles, episodes, seasons, updates, and packs / addons

The global games page will by default filter out extras, to make the browsing experience less bloated and put the focus on base titles instead. This is all just a filter though and can be toggled back to showing all games with the new categories group filter.

List Goodies

Some tasty, heavily requested features are coming to lists as well. I don't want to spoil it but your list management should get slightly better with two new improvements coming in the 1.17 update.

Adult Games Toggle

There'll be a new way to control how adult games appear the site, with a profile level toggle to either hide / show these games. Right now most of these games are hidden with no way to really resurface them without going to them directly. This toggle lets you see these games in more places if you want to. Backloggd nor IGDB will ever serve explicit content in covers, screenshots, or other metadata and this is purely a filter preference.

That's all I want to touch on for 1.17 for now, again I think it'll be out pretty soon so expect a deeper dive when that releases sometime next month.

Replay of the Year: 1998

Start replaying your favorite 1998 games, because the Replay event is coming back between Apr 21 and May 5th! Just like Game of the Year, you'll choose your top games that were released in 1998 for various categories while crowing your favorite for GOTY.

What's been happening?

I want to try this new section out as a way to fill you in on everything that's happened or made developments in-between the monthly updates, but didn't make a big enough splash to warrant a callout before.

Icons were updated to be much smaller, faster load times yay!

Lists and comments were ported to the new moderation system

Means they now require a guideline based removal reason, just like reviews

Lists can now be appealed

Fixed some problems with confirmation emails not reaching anyone's inboxes

Opened up applications for new site / Discord moderators

Still going through them, but hoping to reach out to new mods soon!

Increased the rate that games refresh their ratings

Trending sort has been disabled for a couple of weeks now for performance, but will be back as part of the 1.17 update

See you soon for 1.17!
