Dear Journal:
Big news!!! I passed my driver’s test AND got a job. The driver’s test was a cinch, even the parallel parking. My only blemish was “taking turns too slow.” I didn’t know that was a thing! Even the photo turned out pretty good. I did a double take when the attendant handed me my license, thinking she’d meant to give it to someone else, but then I realized the cute girl with the beaming cherubic face was me.
The job is a barista at Dutch Bros., a drive-thru coffee place that opened near the Starbucks I stop at on my walks for sissy’s calorie bombs. I guess I’ll have to order them at Dutch now! I was certain I’d be offered a position at Burger World, but I never was. Maybe the manager realized, as I did, that it might be too many fatties near the fryer.
I won’t fit in as well at Dutch, that’s for sure. Everyone working there is super fit and tan, two things I’m not (even after all my walking and Tuesday’s sun session). Part of the reason they are is that they work outside, hopping from car to car, taking orders. Fortunately, most of their business comes before 10 AM, before the heat gets too oppressive.
The only negative is that it’s only a mile from the house, so there goes my “I need a car for work” plea. It sucks that Mom cancelled Dr. Chen for the month because I’d love to get his thoughts on that. I understand why she did—we’ll be gone half of July on our cruise—but I’d really like to talk to him about everything that’s going on.
I might have discussed things with sissy, but she’s back to being aloof after Tuesday’s chaise lounge incident. Like, it’s my fault her fat ass was too much for the chair!
Well, I suppose in some ways it is. Oops!
