I'm overwhelmed with Heroes Con coming in two days. I guess I kind of wigged out that I didn't have enough to bring that I started a batch of card drawings. Been trying to get them done while prepping for the show and rearranging my schedule. I basically only had a week to get ready and I already had things to take care of so it's been pretty hectic and I'm hoping I can get some sleep tonight before the long drive from NYC to Charlotte.
I don't have a lot of books to offer. A box of copies of Nerd Inferno, a decent batch of the Beasts of Burden Omnibus after I grabbed copies from JHU Comics to bolster the table. I also took a few Beasts hardcovers, an Animal Rites trade, a Blackwood trade and their last, orphaned copy of Nerd Inferno that had no name attached to it. And I'll have a few copies of Catacomb of Torment from my stock. That's it for books.
If all goes to plan I'll have the limited signed and numbered Eltingville prints from the Austin signing, and I'll have what's left of the House of Fun pins. I have the plastic bags for the prints with me.
And I'll have twenty card drawings. I have three left to wrap up if I have time, otherwise I'll take whatever markers I need to finish them at the show. I'll figure out if I am up for sketching ommissions at the con when I'm at the con. My hand is a bit blown out (got a new wristband!). But if I do commissions there, they will be simple head shots and M&C stuff. Nothing fancy, probably no color. I'll bring the M&C markers just in case. They're easy to do. Frost blue, lemon yellow, goldenrod, life red, maybe the gin bottle/fire colors.
I have to do a layout for a (late, as they all are) commission tonight, and scan an Eltingville piece I cleaned up that a customer asked about. The sale didn't go through so I'm taking it to the show. It's the piece I did for thr JHU print that I didn't like as something to sign. I'll post it here and I will scan it for the print tier asap.
And I have to rearrange the portfolios because I have a lot of pages in them that aren't for sale, just for show. And I need to add some other stuff that's for sale. No M&C pages, Eltingville and Dork, and if I can add them in, some Hectic Planet, Biff Bam Pow and miscellaneous pages. I have the price list printed out and I can price them in the portfolio in the hotel or during the show if I can't do it tonight.
Sarah set up Square on my phone so I can take credit cards at the show. We did a run through and a payment/refund and it seemed simple but of course I'm stressed about screwing it up horribly on the con floor if I try to use it. We shall see. Old man bad at computers and phones and even the most simple tech. I almost deleted this post a few minutes ago. Oy.
Trying to make a music playlist I can download because I didn't have anything on the five-hour drive to VA last year and the loacl radio could get dicey. More religious programming the more south I drove. I've never done 10-12 hours to heroes without a playlist. I also never did the drive alone, so I'll likely screw up something with the playlist or being able to play it. Local classical and classic rock it will be, then. We shall see.
I have some of my travel items packed, need to pack clothes, art supplies, cards for sketching/doodling freebies, etc. I just hope to finish in time to get some real sleep for the first time this week so I'm okay for driving. A little nervous, because I'll be on my own.
I haven't done a big con in nine or ten years, iirc. And I'm actually pretty stressed about everything. Usually I was only a little stressed. Or maybe not. Anyway, I am not sure how things will go because I was such a last minute addition to the show and had only one week to promote my appearance. I'm taking two weeks out of my schedule to prep, go, come back and zombie out for a day. And while the tour has been a fantastic experience, I basically haven't been working, so May was a low income period. Happily, I sold a piece of art a few days ago that helped a lot, and I made some money at the Forest Hills Comic Con. And I'm owed a few hundred in royalties, although who knows when they'll show up. So things didn't go as poorly as I was afraid it would during the signings. I'm still hoping to do okay this weekend to help out even more, and of course, you want to do well at the table if you're going to be at a show. Fingers crossed. I'm at least pretty sure I'll have a good time, at least. Looking forward to seeing some comic book comrades I haven't seen on the road in some time now. And some familiar faces at the table, as well.
Meds! Have to remember to pack my meds!
