"Yeah, I am one of those 'witchy chicks'. Got anything else to say about my tits?"
π Welcome back. Or Whatevs.
The theme for this week is 90's goths. That is, characters we remember from the 90's who are either goth, or have been goth-ified. I don't think I could devote just one week to the fandom of Goth itself, but since it's spring, what better time to talk about that spooky look we all love so much?
π¬ Some Gnome-Spun Truths:
So, truth time. Despite being an art kid, I really didn't have a lot of real-life exposure to Goth kids. And, it honestly wasn't much of a thing growing up in rural Minnesota. Sure, there was a bit of music out there, but the stuff we listened to was really pop / hair band type stuff. Once the 90's hit, my high-school's backwards asses all shifted away from the darkside and toward country music. And, my way of rebelling was doubling down on bad hair metal.
Once I got into college, there was more exposure; new music in the print lab or painting studios playing at late hours (Stabbing Westward, Souixsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and stuff like that) but no one was really dressing and doing the whole look. I think I saw a guy wear black nail polish once.
But in the secret places that I didn't talk about (websites like LVKane's and Inflate123's) I was seeing a lot more fetishy artwork and modded photos. Of course, I don't have access to any of that stuff, but I really have those old sites to thank for exposure to the Goth look as something more than a strange music trend.
βοΈ Gnome is Where the Art Is.
As I said above, this week is all about 90's characters who were goth, or that I think were better served with a goth look. So, we'll start (later today) with a post for all paid members: A guardian of the night from the late 90's who pushed the envelope when it came to gender norms: Cyber Six!
Then, later in the week, I'll be showcasing for the Gnome Team and up a transformation pin-up featuring Hello Nurse and a very very gothified Minerva Mink!
π₯ Mr. DNA Spotlight coming this week!
There just may be more goodies in store for the rest of the week, including a showcase of one of my favorite creators (and pretty decent buddy and fellow Gen-Xer) Mr.DNA! You know his work, likely, featuring his amazing Underburbs characters. I'll get into those characters, share some of my own fan-art of his crew, as well as a showcase of an amazing TF comic featuring the cutest couple, Tandy and Zan. You're not going to want to miss that (also at Gnome Team and higher).
π Thanks for reading!
I'd like to put out these newsletters as often as I can, so come back Mondays to see upcoming work throughout the week and month to follow. Thanks, and as always...
...keep dreaming!
