Last week we gave a general update on our progress. This week, we’re going to go into a bit more detail about one of the key elements of the next Major Update: the Combat Mastery Guilds.
Before we dive in, a quick word from our sponsor community manager…
📢Survey #6 reminder
Thanks to everyone who’s already filled out our latest survey! We’ve had some amazing feedback already. If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the survey yet, it’ll stay open for another week.
You can fill out the survey here:
As a reminder, this survey covers the 4 non-combat skills from our most recent Major Update - Agility, Thieving, Herblore and Beastcrafting. These surveys form the foundation of the feedback we use to make changes going forward, so please have your say!
👀Combat Mastery Guilds Preview
We're bringing Mastery Guilds to Combat with the next Major Update. It works similar to the existing Mastery Guilds found in non-Combat Skills where you'll be tasked to complete... tasks... to unlock permanent bonuses for Combat.
We concepted a few ways to implement this Guild and ended up with creating one Mastery Guild per Combat Skill. This allowed us to create tasks that are specialised and themed after the respective Combat Skill, while also allowing us to give even more permanent bonuses.
In total, there's currently over 1,200 tasks to complete across all Combat Skills. Below goes into some detail about how the tasks are laid out, and possible paths to completion that it allows.
Types of Tasks
Here are the types of tasks you will come across in each Guild.
Attack
Takes care of "Melee" themed Tasks
Slay Ranged/Magic/Melee Monsters using Melee
Slay specific Dungeon bosses within a certain time
Find and equip specific unique Attack-related Items
Ranged
Same as Attack, but Ranged instead.
Magic
Same as Ranged, but Magic instead.
Additional tasks relating to Elements
Strength
Contain tasks for both Melee and Ranged
Deal Total Damage against Monsters using Crush and Powerful stances
Deal at least a certain amount of Damage in a single hit
Apply Stun to Monsters
Slay Armoured Monsters
Find and equip specific unique Strength-related Items
Defence
Contain tasks for all Combat Styles
Slay Monsters using Block, Long-Range and Focused stances
Evade Attacks
Find and equip specific unique Defence-related Items
Hitpoints
Deal Total Damage against Monsters
Damage negated by Ward and Armour
Lifesteal from Monsters
Deal Bleed Damage to Monsters
Heal using Auto Eat
Find and equip unique Hitpoints-related Items
Slayer
Complete Tasks for Slayer Masters
Deal Total Damage to Monsters on Task
Find and equip unique Slayer-related Items
Prayer
A combination of many of the above tasks, but you'll be required to complete them with Prayers active.
Task Chaining & Freedom of Choice
You might be reading the above list and wondering if its possible to complete tasks simultaneously. The answer is yes!
The Tasks are designed in a way to provide some sort of freedom of choice to you. Depending on how you approach the Guilds, you will be able to complete many tasks simultaneously if you meet all the Task conditions.
We also opted against forcing you to slay certain Monsters (with the exception of Bosses). Almost all of the tasks will ask you to fight Monsters within a certain Combat level range. This gives you the freedom to pick the Monster you want to fight.
Another great benefit of designing tasks this way is the automatic inclusion of future content. As the tasks ask for any Monster within certain Combat Levels, it means new Monsters will become an automatic option for its completion.
Unique Challenge Tasks
We've got some ideas for unique challenge tasks to spice things up as well. There's not much to talk about here just yet as they aren't finalised, but just know we're planning to throw in a few curve balls.
