Time for another progress report on the upcoming epRUNTIME: 25 minutesSHOTS ANIMATED: 80/94 (85%)BACKGROUNDS: 100/105 (95%)TOTAL PROGRESS: 90% COMPLETE
EPISODE REPORT:As much as it pains me to announce, the episode will be delayed by 6 to 8 weeks. Why? Well there is very little that can tear me away from this project besides more Day Job.WHAT?: Last week, Screen Australia announced that Day Job has been selected for script development. This means writing complete scripts for the remaining 5 episodes. If I finish on time and they like the scripts, the series has a chance at production funding later in the year, which would help dramatically. Anyway the scripts are now well underway and will be finished next month. The problem is the deadline for these scripts overlaps completely with the last stretch of the production in progress.
PRODUCTION: We've made good progress since the last report, but I've put a lot of things on hold for the past few weeks while I write. I'd left a lot of the hardest shots for last, which I do want to animate myself. Eneko and some other animators are continuing, but my absence has slowed things down for a while. I don't want to rush the final part when I'm unable to give it my focus.Feels dumb to hit pause when it's 90% complete, cause when it comes down to it, my loyalty is always with the audience over networks, etc. We never know what Screen Australia might do after I submit my scripts. But what tipped my decision here is that I will use these scripts either way. Even if we don't receive funding, I will still make all these episodes via patreon, just on an altered release schedule. And having these scripts all completed from the jump will make production go much faster.
UNSCRIPTED?: The original three episodes didn't use scripts and were comprised of improvised scenes. This is core to what Day Job is, so I was wary of doing scripts. However the specific dialogue in the scripts is more of a formality, and I can replace it with improvised dialogue later on. We've done the same for the current episode, which has a heavily written story in support of improvised conversational scenes.
Anyway, if you're new, here's the series overview again:1. The Documentary (WIP) (25:00)2. Lily's Uni Life (15:00)3. Hannah's Audition (15:00)4. Rowley's Redemption (15:00)5. Ivan's Other Job (15:00)6. The EYE-BC Film Festival (20:00)
Thanks again for the continued support. Right now I have the privilege of putting 100% of my focus on Day Job, which is entirely thanks to you.
