What if the classic "Beauty and the Beast" went a little differently? Gaston does not really have to be that much of an asshole, right? And Belle's interest for shaggy monsters is clearly exaggerated!
We really care about character authenticity. Belle is a proper (very proper!) dreamy young lady who loves books... And she's definitely not about to spread her legs for the first guy who shows up on day one... in the first week... or in the first month. Gaston is supposed to have to work for it!
But Belle is not the only girl in town, and not all of them are quite as proud and out of reach!
