It is important that Sony's DMF Focus Mode (Direct Manual Focus) is not confused with Full Time DMF. The DMF focus mode first uses AF-S (Single-shot AF) to acquire focus and then allows the photographer to manually fine-tune the focus by turning the focus ring (with the option of using a magnified view). Full Time DMF (when enabled on the lens or in the menus) allows the photographer to rapidly shift focus while using Continuous AF / AF-C (no need to use the DMF Focus Mode). Rather than fine-tune the focus Full Time DMF is used to quickly shift focus to a distance where the AF-C and Subject recognition can quickly acquire focus on the subject (avoiding focus hunting or long delays in acquiring focus).
