This pic is a depiction of when the scarred Mortimer's journey in Shadowdark truly begins.
After he had recovered from his wounds with the help of the old healer couple who found him destroyed, he stuck with them for a bit. But one day the old man died and his wife was distraught.
Mortimer felt the call to leave on his own but felt as if he was responsible for the old woman.
So to rid himself of the burden, he killed the old woman, reuniting her with her husband in death and freeing himself from feeling obligated to take care of her.
What a twisted resolve from a twisted mind.
